towing wobble

Postby hassy21 » Fri Jun 05, 2009 12:19 pm

the truck has got a add a leaf the try and stop it from swaying when towing my traler but it still does it really bad. i cant get over 60 mph and it starts doing it. is this a common problem for srw trucks. what can i do to prevent this as i would like to really on my truck more to tow my racecar. i also need some ideas on bypassing the anti-lock to get my rear brakes to work. any ideas???

Is the truck swayong or the trailer? Try adding some more tounge weight.

That was my thought too. Trailer is swaying the truck, tail wagging the dodge syndrome. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

sounds like its too heavy in the rear. the lift could also be contributing to this too. shift the load forward, as others said. you could also use a weight distributing hitch. they are pricey but worth it. you can also outfit it with a sway control.

If you are towing with 36's like you signature says then it will tow like poo anyway. It will roll on the tires side to side. I have had some sway issues if the trailer has any weight behind the axles on the trailer. The load can be balenced but if there is alot of mass it will wag the trailer's ass end.

Towing is like an on-the-job physics class. For every action, there is an equal and opposite....

I would go with the tires being a big problem. You have way to much sidewall with those big tires on little centers.

ok i have a set of 16in by 8in rims. which size tires or brand of tire would be best for towing and not get a lot of sidewall flex? thanks

Your sig says "add a leaf," but with the Skyjacker springs, I'd also consider them suspect, or contributing at least until proven otherwise. My truck was absolutely worthless towing with the Skyjacker springs (6" rears w/o blocks) until after I put on Timbrens and a sway bar. Now it's just OK. Those springs are not wearing well, either. They are 4 years old now. I put an add a leaf on the driver's front last year to even it up and just recently a 1" block in the passenger rear to do the same. I will never have another set of Skyjacker springs.

Get some michelin XPS RIB tires :D They will look dumb on a lifted 4x4, but no sidewall flex at all, and they tow really nice. Seem to last forever too. They do make an all terrain xps traction tire. Only available in stock tire size :(

i dont have the skyjacker springs in the back just the block but even when it was stock we added the extra leaf to try to stop it for wobble but it didnt help much. at that time i also had 33" by 10" bfg all terrains
