Pulsing Brakes

Postby Callan » Fri Jul 17, 2009 6:53 pm

Everytime I use the brakes these days they pulse and cause the truck to shake. I can feel it on the brake pedal and I am pretty sure its to do with the ABS... Has anyone had this before and what was the fix? Or how do I unplug the ABS lol

Thanks!

Unplug the ABS module behind the glove box and see if the problem persists.

i can't see me warping the rotors or the drums, i'm not hard on the brakes at all and always leave lots of braking time. I can feel it right in the brake pedal pulsing the brakes, i dunno if warped rotors would do that or not. I'll unplug the module and see if that helps

If you can feel it in the pedal its warped rotors.

Neither do I, but it's a fact of life. It seem to start with the rear brakes getting out of adjustment first, then all the load goes on the front. The rear being out can shake the truck as bad, if not worse than warped rotors.

I'm at that point right now with my brakes- pulse and shake the whole truck, but I feel it more in the steering than in the pedal.

With all the ultra high quality stuff coming from the ChiComs, your new rotors could have been shot right out of the box.

Yeah if these rotors are shot i'll be pissed. They were brand new when i got the truck last june. I might have put 10 000 miles on them. Oh well I will have to get in there and see what the hell is going on.

Local O'Reilly's has new Borg Warner lifetime guarnteed rotors for $75-85.

If your rotors are warbled you can have them trued.

My ABS light is on all the time. I wonder about my rear adjustment.

I definately have a warped rotor. Probably on the passenger side.

I am just tolerating it for now. $$$$ is scarce.

Not shure if this is timely but my brakes were pulsing really bad.. took my hubs (W250) to a local shop and they turned the rotors.. put new pads and DAMN if my brakes aren't the best... Makes driving much more enjoyable not having to rely on the exhaust brake to stop the shaking..
...Good luck......

my brakes are pretty soft unless a pump them up while stoping then they get real tight. what could cause this?

master cylinder is dying. You may have it leaking down the floor board or the fire wall. I have seen them leak internally too.

TT, most likely the ABS valve. I'd vote that over the master cylinder. BTDT. ;)
