Air Bags?

Postby Bad93Cummins » Sun Sep 13, 2009 8:47 pm

Well been thinking/looking into air bags for the rear of my truck sence I tow my mud truck, atv's, etc.. and was looking at the 5,000lb air bags and was wandering if anyone ever used them on a 1st gen and if they work for alot of wait? Worth the money? I notice when I put a load on my truck she squats pretty bad.

Thanks

the airbags will hold fine but have u thought about just a bigger spring pack from another truck? I have a huge spring set up in my w250 that i got from a parts truck that had the camper/tow package ...combined that main spring stack with a bigger set of helpers and I can load my dads unimog on our car trailer just about till my front wheels come of the ground and those rears wont sag....just a thought
...ur kidneys my disagree with me tho

Never thought about that, I have a 2wd are the eye to eye measurement's the same for 2wd and 4wd dodges? Yea I have a 1975 GMC Mud truck on some 12" springs plus drop hangers and it rides like theres no suspension but im young so its not a big deal. YEa never thought about that, we use to have a old 80's chevy crew cab dually with camper special and they were some hudge springs, that would probley work much better then the bags.

same here im young so the springs dont bother me i dont quite know if the eye to eye but id venture a guess to say they are the same my truck now has some ungodly amount of leafs 12 total on my main stack and 7 giant helper springs (alone the equivilent of a f150) and now my truck never squats even pullin a sled it didnt squat it got a mean 5 inches of lift in the back too :)

Eye to eye won't matter if you leave the main there and just build the rest of the stack around it.
Where I used to work we had a '73 1/2 ton with a custom steel stepside box that we doubled the leaf pack in. We put the 3yd pickup type salt sander in and filled it to the top with sand. The truck went down 2 inches. We dumped the load and did it again because we thought we mis-measured it. It did ride kinda hard, but I was young like you guys are now. ;)

had a 93 chevy astro van 2WD and a set of 2500lbs air lift springs over the factory leafs. I towed over 8000lbs multiple times with no issues! put about 30-40lbs of pressure worked awesome! rode nice while unloaded!!!
