front driveshaft ujoint ?

Postby txs » Sun Jan 03, 2010 9:46 am

Does anyone know if the dana 60 car rears shared the ujoint size with the 2 5/8" truck ujoint? I'm thinking these were the only chryco yokes to use ubolts for cap retention. This is one of the areas where dodge sucks.
93 w250 6 speed 4" exhaust, caution, work truck, she's no beauty. building 1 ton dually 4x4, dana 80, 48rh, 205 Scratch the one ton, bought frt. dually 4x4 98 12 valve with the tiny rear doors. rides so much better than the 93.

{edit}I think the CAR D-60 yoke was a spicer 1330?
Doesn't work with a 7290.{end}
Yes, the DANA 60 7290 rear yoke DOES interchange with the fronts on the D-60.
You COULD just upgrade front yoke to the 1410 style, the 70 yoke works on the 60.

When I blew the pinion yoke on my other 89 I finally found a new one through 4 Weel parts. It had the bigger cross of the newer 1st gens so I had to get a adaptive u joint. I remember when I ordered it the tech guy said to drill the threads out and use the u bolt style retainers. It may be a simple as buying a u bolt kit at a parts store and doing that. ;)

I folded up about 3 layers of sand paper and used that as shims to tighten everything up. Not sure if that was a good idea or not but it has worked so far.

farmboy, some stainless shim stock would be a lot better, the paper will deteriorate over time. I like the ford ubolts, but I believe they are 5/16", don't know if there is enough meat in the dodge yokes to stand drilling them out, also don't know the ujoint cap diameter on the fords but think I'm gonna look into it.
