how tuff?

Postby stock91w350 » Wed Jan 06, 2010 4:43 pm

I have a 1991 w350, it doesent have the owners manual so can someone tell me how much weight i can put in the rear bed and how much i can tow? all i can tell you about this truck is that its dual wheel, cummins,it was a dump truck style bed with the huge reece hitch and the tail lights are little square ones that are mounted beside, it now has a regular 8ft dual wheel body, its a single cab, getrag 5spd, 410 gears, it seems super tough, pulled out a monster tree out of the woods today with all the limbs still on it. pushes unreal snow, ill post pics soon

I load till it breaks then next time just put on a little less. :D

The 89 book says the 135 inch wheelbase W350 has a GVWR of 8700 pounds. The truck must be around 6400 pounds so I would say 2300 pounds. That is just a reference by the maker. Does not really mean anything.

As far as weight in the bed, I always say, "the bumper isn't dragging the ground yet".

Check on the drivers door post. Should be a sticker there that has axle weights and GVW.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

wow 6500lbs! i have 4 fish/bate totes filled with sand in the back of mine, i figure 200- 250lbs a piece for 800-1000 kbs total and if the bump stops are the little rubber thing just above the second set of springs than im only abot a inch from hitting them

ROFLMFAO!
Back when I was a pee-leg of 16, I found out that term wasn't literal, the HARD way!
I had a '63 Ford Unibody 1/2 ton with the straight 6 that I put 3 foot sideboards on, then loaded it LEVEL with clean cast, engine blocks, heads, you name it.

It didn't like that. :?

I agree with Bill, load the piss out of it and drive :D

This is 4500lbs in the bed, pile of wood plus all my suitcase weights underneath

And this is the 3000lb load I've been hauling around for a month

As far as towing capacity goes, same deal. This is my old mans dually grossing 21,000 and handles it with ease

I'd say it depends mostly on the condition/type of rear springs and tires. Tires might be the most important factor when approaching the GVWR.

I would say also a lot depends on the condition of the truck. if it was a dumper, it could be beat, or it could not be. On my drive up to ak I went through some scales and had over 9k on the rear. that sat low, but the front lift springs make it look a lot worse. I lost my rear out put on the 205, and the 70 grenaded. had a lot to do with the crazy road conditions, plus I think a pinion bearing was going out before I even left comifornia. so load it up, just drive like a grandpa, and don't wheel it with a load.
