Front spenchun parts.

Postby Rebel Ram » Thu May 17, 2007 7:08 pm

While shopping on Napa's online catalog for front end suspension parts such as Bushing and ball joints, the site has options for #4000 axle and w/o. And threaded type ball joints and non threaded. Without disassembly first how can I know which parts to order?

Your asking the right guy. I JUST completed the complete rebuild of two trucks. 1990 D250 and my 1992 D250. Everything was replaced. No joke. I used almost all NAPA items outside the sway bar bushing/links.

It's best if you call me at the shop during the day. I get off work at 3:00 pm.

Excelent! I'll be out in the garage tomorow and I'll look at the No.s,
How was the fit with the Napa parts? Did you spring for the premium (more expensive) parts on Napa's list or no? Were you able to save the eccentric bolts and reuse them? Those are the parts that my alignment guy told me are spendy when you can find them. Hopefully mine are OK.

I purchased the best NAPA line. It cost a small fortune to do both trucks. I was suprised to find tha ball joints were not too bad. Some felt really good still. The tie rods (I think there are like nine of them  ) also felt good. I still replaced them all though.................

I saved the cam bolts. It took some work though on the 92 as it has seen loads of salt. I had to cut the portion of the cross member away that holds them.

The 250 don't all have the 4000 lb axle. My 92 does. The 90 is a 3860 lb rate. However the parts are all the same. I even used some "yard" parts from a 1993 D350 like the upper/lower control arms.

I WAS using MOOG ball joints, but had one go bad, so I am now trying the Spicer brand ball joints (GF says they have held up in 3rdGen 4x4s). They actually look and feel heavier than the MOOG. I dont like to buy stuff from NAPA, cause I cant get a brand name for 90% of the stuff. I'd like to know who made it and where it came from.

For ANY vehicle with the Cummins B series in it, I'd recommend the premium line of anything front end related, esp in the 2wds- they are horribly under engineered in the Dodges.
