Spindle nut socket P/N's

Postby jeff77indy » Thu Jun 24, 2010 3:14 pm

I was taking the front hubs off my '92 W350 and found that the spindle nuts are not the same as the '89 I used to have and still have the sockets for those axles. The front on the '92 will need a 7158 will the rear axle nuts require a different socket than the Dana 60 that was in the '89?
Any one have the NAPA P/N's for these?

Thanks
Jeff

The rears should be a 2 9/16 inch socket. Napa should have them readily available.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Is that an OTC 7158? The description of that says it is for 94 and newer Dodge with a Cummins and a D60...

I purchased a 2-9/16" OCT thin wall socket from NAPA. Socket #2438. It will not work. The nut has short flat sections in between each of the 6 flat sections. The socket only has the 6 flat sides. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Will it physically fit on the nut? If so, it'll work....try it. Really just about any axle nut 2 9/16" socket will work on the rear spindle nuts.

You can swap out the rear nuts to the same as the front and only have to buy/carry one socket, its a better design too.

That's what I did. Hands down better design, as you aren't relying on a very small metal tab to keep the bearing nut in place.

No, it wont fit over the nut. Its Not a standard 6 point nut.
