Lift questions

Postby holeshotracing » Mon Jan 08, 2007 12:11 pm

I want to do a subtle lift on my '93, one of those where people go, "Is it lifted, or not?" Maybe 2 to 2 1/2". I want to be able to run stock 16" rims with a taller tire, and hopefully not have to make any mods to the steering or drivetrain. I'm hoping a short lift like this won't set me up for any problems. Does anybody have any suggestions who makes one of these and what size tires would look good with about a 2" lift? :D Thanks.

i did just an add-a-leaf on a couple of mine. wasnt too much $ and gave a couple inches and no other stuff needed.

285's or 255's look excellent on a 1gen with a mild altitude enhancement 8)

I want to run 35x12.5-16's on the front of my 1gen, will a 2" body lift let them clear ok or should I go with the 3"? Are there any kits out there that come with the bumper relocation brackets for the front or do you have to make your own?

I am very happy with my 2.5" skyjacker softride springs. They brought the front of the truck up, and improved ride greatly. I've run 33X12.5X16.5 BFG Mts and am now running 305/70R16's. The springs brought the truck up a little higher in the front then level. Its level now after a little break in.

KTA- Have you tired to put the tires/wheels on your truck and looked to see how much room you need? I'd think about trimming the fenders, instead of lifting the body. Bill called me trying to get info for you about your truck. I don't know if even a 3" body lift will clear those tires without trimming the fenders. My 305s are slighly smaller then what a 35 will measure, and they clear on my spring lift. But thats without any significant weight on the front bumper for pulling. PM me or email me if you want to discuss some more.

MMiller, since it is a dually front end I will have to make rims to mount the 35's, so I know I havent checked to see what the fit looks like, I guess I need to just throw a tire in there and eyeball it. I am shure they will clear easy withot fender trimming with a 2" body lift as I have 31.5 tall michelins on the front now and it is 2.5" from the tire to the closest rub point now, so I think with a 2" lift I would get the same clearance as I have now or close. The lift is actually more necessary to make turbo plumbing and mounting easier than it is to clear tires.

if ya want to mount the 35s and ya drive in the hills where ya need some articulation you'll need to trim the fenders. a little in the front lower and a bit more than that in the back lower.

my 91 w350 srw had 255's and a 4inch rancho lift and a 3inch body lift and in the extreme trails theyd come close to rubbing my uncut fenders. chains on those trails wld rub bad. were talking serious frame flexing here.

This truck will not be doing any wheeling or extreme offroading. It wont get driven anywhere I wouldnt drive my car, and my custom front springs are soo stiff it would probably twist the frame before the wheels would rub LOL I guess I will just have to try it and see what it is like. 8)

holeshot, my 91 is stock height and easily clears the 285's (33's) i think it looks good and already begs the question, is there or isn't there?

holeshotracing,
My truck has add a leafs in the front with 255/85*16`s no problems with fit or bumpsteer, works nice....rides like carp but thats add a leafs for ya.

KTA,
I had an 86 gasser with a 4in lift and 35 in BFG Muds, they would rub if flexed/turning but very little. I "tried" to put that same wheel/tire combo on my 93 and no dice...unless I only wanted to go straight  I think a 4in is the minimum if ya want to run 35`s...darned teeny tiny Dodge wheelwells.
It`s not about how hard ya hit...it`s about how hard ya can GET hit and keep movin forward.

My truck had two extra leaves in it when I got it and cleared 33x12.5 easy. I would think if you have more springs than stock a 2in body lift would probobly do it. FYI, I put 4.5 inch lift springs in mine and it easily cleared the 315's (close to a 35).

I'm rethinking the lift idea, and now I think I would just like to level it up. It's sagging in the front a good bit in its old age. If I get new stock springs for the front, will that level it up? Or do I need add-a-leafs?
So there shouldn't be any problem running 285/75/R16s with no lift?
Thanks guys.

I think I am going with a full 4" front and a 2" add a leaf rear From skyjacker and add new shocks.
