my 93 d350 project

Postby diesel freak01 » Wed Sep 15, 2010 7:33 am

ok so i finally have started my frame swap project this week. Mark Nixon you were very correct in saying this frame was clean, and thank you. i have almost completely sandblasted the frame and it looks great, should be painted by the weekend. now for my source problems. i have found a supplier for the cab corners and extensions for my ext cab. but the few other things i need are a complete brake line kit, wanted ss but dont wanna give $350 for it so i guess normal steel lines will do. im going to do a 1/2 draw straw and lines. need good rear brakes and adjusters. also need the front cover gasket but i think my local truck shop can get it.

biggest problem i am having is finding my rear overload springs, the ones i have go under the spring pack. local shop wants 4-600 to make them  . anybody have any or have an better ideas?
does anyone know if the diamond eye exhaust kit will fit an hx-40? or just need a different downpipe?

thanks for all the help guys!

i have a set of factory overload springs, spacers, and brackets. mix in some ubolts and you are set. these are off a 1990 D350, the ones that go over the main spring pack. im 8 miles from the ohio line.

I roll my own brake lines. I used the rust resistant S.U.R.&R. - Innovative Automotive Solutions 3/16" E-Z Bend brake Tubing # BR-EZ100 which is sold by www.fuelsender.com I bought mine at my local Carquest auto parts store. It looks like copper & bends like copper but when you touch it to a grinder it makes sparks. It think one of the trade names is Cunifer.

I think I came across this on my Wrangler project. When I was pulling the front end I saw ( what I thought was) copper line.

Man alive. Are u really wanting to cheap out on ur brakes. I don't mean to step on toes here but,for me, I would never play with mine. If I were to redo my braking system I would use parts that were of good quality.

well from i read it is a 25' roll of brake line so i dont think its really cheaping out, but like i said im going to look around some more i dont really want to buy sticks and piece it together i would rather run continuous lines and i have all the tools to do it right so why not just buy a roll and go with it?

What I was getting at is all brake tubing is not the same. That cheap stuff is more than likly gonna be hard to make a clean flare on. It may try to split in the flare and also would never make a double flare. As far as using stick tubing, many oem apps use unions(not compression unions)on the rear line. Ford and chevy in the last ten years have. Stick tubing can be had in 7 or 8 foot sections so really u could work it to only one union.

FWIW; it took over 40+ years for the brake line manufacturers & me to meet up with the tubing that I described above. This stuff cuts, bends, and flares like no other brake line I have ever used. The antirust qualities alone to me over justify the increased price. I remember buying NAPA precut tubing in the 60' & 70's that was never the right length and having to make "line coils" just to take up the slack. I seen this same old NAPA tubing rust out in 3 years or less!! It's your choice but for me I really do not like having to redo brake lines because they corroded.

Summit racing has 25' rolls of stainless tubing that bends and flares beautifully. They also have stainless fitting kits that include every fitting needed for our trucks. I used it and would never use anything else again.

Well thread resurrection time!

Got the ol girl in the garage yesterday and been tinkering. Got the lp piston pump on. Engine still spins but the starter is frozen. Got the wiring harness changed over.

Now for the questions. Does anyone repop fenders? What size are stock fuel lines? What's a good rust stopper?

Ok well that figures. Anybody have any leads on good clean fenders? It is an LE truck and i had noticed that the ones that i found only fit the base model, ie without the trim holes. If not i guess i will put the crusty ones on until i find something. I bought a parts truck last year that has good inner fenders but the outers are in about the same shape as mine.
