headache rack

Postby 93oneton » Sun Jan 11, 2015 3:57 pm

Saw this on a flat bed truck and thought it was a cool idea. I love the sound of a first gen with stacks, but not so sure on the look. Not to mention my wife absolutely hates them. So i figured i would incorporate stacks into my headache rack. I sold the old one off my truck so i could build the new one. Its not 100% done but thought i would share my progress.

I like it, my only concern would be blistering the paint its sitting on.

I though of that too. There is no part of the rack that has direct exhaust gas goin through it sitting on the bed rail. Im sure it will have some heat transfer but shouldn't be to bad. I hope. Where the gasses turn and go in to the upright i but a deflector to direct the gas up and away from the bed rail. If that makes sense

this is where that deflector is. Its not in in this pic but it 45's away from the angle that sits on the bed rail.

Sweet Chevy. Nice idea with the rack too. Like the idea. Any thought to mesh or something to protect the non sliding windows, or flat sheet with a design burned into it?
Was thinking doing similar, only running the angle all the way back, and incorporating some tie down points, or d rings, something to tie down too. I find that lacking with our besides, and mine seem to pull too much for my liking.

Anyways, nice headache rack, another cool project like your front bumper

Thanks. The rack i built for my brother in law for his gas dodge was a non slider rear window. We just used raised expanded steel all the way across. Mine will have the same steel to cover my windows.

So the only thing i didnt like was the Gab between the Headache rack and cab. I cant slide it back any farther cause the lower exhaust tube. So i built some Filler plates. The welds will get all blended in so t it will look seem less. I should have all my exhaust parts tomorrow. Hope to here it this weekend

Have you put much heat through them yet to see how the paint holds up?
