its an exhaust brake. its an elbow that mounts on the back side of the turbo and has a valve in it. when activated, it constricts the engine and causes it to slow down, along with the rest of the truck and whatever you are hauling. its the same principle as a jake brake that the big rigs use, but a different way of doing it. its also a great way to warm up your truck faster when cold out.

i have wanted an exhaust brake for a while. i'll have to pay attention to how you do it, and try to make my own.

what kind of money is the whole mess going to cost you ACE?

do i have to be a rocket scientist???

I got lucky and scored a new Pacbrake on eBay for $300, so I've got maybe a total of $400 in the brake and DP. The DP is alot of fabrication, like I said, basically casting the flange by hand a little at a time, and obviously fitting the rest of it all together. I spent basically all day one day making it. You would probably be better off spending the coin on the 3" Pacbrake DP unless you are a good fabricator/welder.

Shift work is a drag, but at least I have plenty of time to do stuff like that on my days off. :D

i robbed the pacbrake off my crew cab before i sold it. it came with it, and i removed it before i sold the truck for $2k more than i had in it. some day ill get around to sticking it on, unless i decide to sell the truck first...which may be sooner before later...

if i keep the truck long enough to put it on, i think im just gonna stick a 2nd gen downpipe on it. lots of them to be had for cheap.

You'll have to cut the pipe that goes past and around the t-case to make it fit. May need a short piece of flex to make it line up properly.

I bought a 2nd gen pipe from NAPA and modding it to fit my BD brake I got used.

That is misleading. The result is the same (truck slows down), but a compression brake is a completely different animal than the exhaust brake.
