My 1990 Project Restoration photo progress thread!

Postby IC-Smoke » Tue Feb 10, 2009 7:42 pm

My first vehicle was a 89W250 w a 318 gasser, I loved the truck and kick myself each day for selling it.... long story short I had been hunting for a 1st gen to restore to its showroom floor condition with a few minor tweaks here and there. A local farmer had this and I knew him in passing. After talking to a few people I got wind that the transmission was shot and he wanted to rid the truck... I talked with him and made a offer. Two weeks later no word, I then got a call from him asking if I was still interested, he would take my offer! I gladly took it off his hands.

The truck was sold at the local dodge dealership and Im the 3rd owner. 160K on the clock. New injection pump, re-worked turbo, larger injectors and a few aftermarket gauges in the cab. Im not 100% what has been done to the truck as far as upgrades to the turbo/injectors but the previous owner is friends with Rick at Dave's Diesel in Angola, IN/

More to come! I dont have a heated garage large enough to really start the body work but Im going to clean up the motor, throw on a fuel pin, gov spring, new seals and some paint to clean it up. Along with sending the trans/t-case out to be re-built

This is a very interesting project to follow. She is going to look really good when you are finished. Have you thought about swapping the 727 to a 518 or 47RH? The O/D and possibly lockup (with the 47RH) would work really nice with those 3.07 gears.

Keep the pictures coming. 8)

I havent given it much though, Id like to run 19.5's on it so that will mess with the gearing a little but as far as the trans I thought I might keep it true to the year but throw some DTT internals to it.

This looks a lot like mine. If I wasn't funding my last semester of grad school it would be done. Here is mine, its a little farther along but I haven't taken any pictures lately.

I just finally got the dash back in the thing tonight. I painted the frame with POR15 two coats turned out really well. Its been a long long project, basically is a time vs. money thing get a little money spend a lot of time lol go broke, wait again. When I'm done basically everything will either have been rebuilt or new.

To answer a question earlier it is "suppose" to be a 2" lift but I think it is more like a 4" when measuring my buddy's stock truck. Its 29" from the ground to the top of the rocker panel where the door shuts, the tires are 33" tall. That is about all I can say after dealing with the company I got the lift from it wouldn't surprise me if they did send me the wrong one.

I wish pete, if I had the money and a few more friends it probably could be together enough to go but things don't look to good.

Too bad you're so far away. I'd come up and help for a while.

You could sell the friends that don't work, that will eliminate the deadwood, and give you parts money!

I wish you lived closer to Pete. I may need your help when it comes time to get into the pump to add the spring and adjust it up. Looking at the money issue and time, I am thinking with what I have left to do on the truck the injectors may have to wait a few weeks after I get it all back together. I know the non-intercooled injectors are larger but do you think they will spool my turbo?
