lp part number

Postby ahale2772 » Sun Oct 04, 2009 7:27 pm

Ive got a couple of questions, Im sure u guys have been asked this a million times but dose anyone know the latest most up to date partnumber for the 15 psi lift pump, I had a cummins guy crossreference an older pn (3936320) and he came up with the 30 psi pump, i thought about using that with a pressure relief but im gona just try to get the right one instead....unless anyone thinks this is a better way to do it....

, also can any one who has put one of these on a 1st gen tell me how u cut the insulation off of the crank case breather tube thingy?

,and lastly when I was mocking up the 2ng gen 30 psi pump to my motor I noticed that the rod exctinding to the cam looked a little low in comparison to where the cam was located (the pad that contacts the cam was far below the center of the cam) and even with the spacer for the pump i dont trust putting this pump on and breaking something im sure Im just being paranoid but Id love a second opinion,
thanks in advance

The "best" way to deal the crankcase insulation is to leave it alone. The stock filter is a bottleneck. Not just the filter, but the passages in the manifold as well. Get a fuel filter head, mount it to the frame and run a bigger filter with at least 3/8" line all the way through. Then you just thread the fitting of your choice into the top of the pump and be done with it.

the filter? why would i change that ? where is the filter in relation to the insulation? dose it block the line or the fitting?

The line running from the piston pump to the stock filter is why you have to clearance the block insulation.

yeah i was actually planning on using my own line i dont feel like spending 40 dollars for the cummins part so my clearence issues are minimized but im guessing if i cut off 1/4 of an inch id be fine have u ever seen anyotne trim the insulation?

Just trim the insulation with a utility knife. It has a hard cover but cuts ok.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I might be a few months late here but you probably had the right pump. Assuming your Cummins guy found part number 4988751, that pump is listed in the Cummins system as a 30 psi pump but that's sort of a typo. If you look at the top of the body of the pump (just below the outlet) you should see a dot. As long as that dot is violet, you have the right pump. Blue, green, red, and no dot are all 30 psi pumps.
