New Dyno # & 1/4 Times

Postby DLittle » Sun Aug 12, 2007 8:31 pm

Went to Diesel Thunder thi weekend had a good time meet some new people made new friends. Got to see some pretty swweet trucks. One that Dyno'd 813hp.

It was my 2nd time on the dyno with the mods in my sig I did 339 HP and 604TQ. I was hoping for a little more in both hp/tq but pretty happy with the numbers. I only had one good run where the tranny didn't downshift into 3rd. I forgot to see what kind of dyno it was but I didn't pull the boost #'s like I did last time on the dyno. I only got to 38psi about 1150 egt. Last time I hit 44psi and just about 1300egt.

There was only 3 1st gen's there and I was the only one to dyno.

They had racing at Spokane Raceway Park that evening. It was the first time for me on the track. I wasn't to sure what to expect. I got in line for time trials and lined up against and fullon Drag truck running a D-max. I was think great the slowest truck against the fastest truck. We got up to the staging light and I was nervous and shaking. I had my 15yr old son in the passenger seat and he was like oh crap. I brought the boost up to about 8psi and left on the last yellow and floored it. Heard the tires chirpping and just held on didn't have time to look at anything. I thought I would see that drag truck just blow by me but I Didn't see him until about half track and he was moving. Made me look like I was standing still. I wasn't sure where the end of the 1/4 mile was so I let off and then I see the timing lights I let off some where just after the 1/8 mile mark OOP's.
Anyway here's my times for the first run against the drag truck and his times.
Mine reaction .53 His 1.14
60ft 1.88 1.92
1/8 mile 8.86@76mph his 6.66
1/4 mile 15.06@ 60mph his 10.39 @ 142.24

2nd run 60ft 1.92
1/8 8.36
1/4 14.26 @ 88.91 mph

3rd run 60ft 1.94
1/8 8.41
1/4 14.32 @ 88.91mph

Funny thing was is my tranny wouldn't go into O/D and I was pulling some rpm. I actually was defueling before the end of the 1/4. Watched my boost go from 44psi and just fall flat to nothing before the end. I'll have to figure that one out. Any ideas on not going into O/D ?
Overall had a really fun time and done something I always wanted to do and want to do again.

Those are really good 60ft's were you launching in 4wd? To get it to shift to OD you probably will have to lift off the throttle some, when you have your foot through the floor the PCM thinks you want passing gear and wont engage OD. You could possibly just unbolt the TPS from the pump and let it hang, that should cause it to shift, and to shift early on all gears, taking better advantage of your power instead of running too many rpm and being out of the curve. Of course it may just shift too early all the time like that and you might have to try re indexing it on the throttle shaft to get a good compromise. Those are still really good times you are within a half a second of me and 30mph slower.

KTA

I was launching in 4wd. Any idea what a safe amount of boost is to launch with ? I was tring to get about 10psi but things were happening so fast or I was just nervous I couldn't get it. Thanks for the tip on the O/D I will give it a try next time. I was really hoping for the 13's. I think I should get it with O/D.

How much boost you can launch with is determined by the torque multiplication of the converter. With the pulling truck I work on anything over 15psi boost launches and you are picking up tranny or t-case parts, they just can't take that kind of load. Of course that engine make like 800hp with 45psi of boost, so 15psi is alot more hp in it than what yours is, but it has alot bigger and heavier parts. My suggestion would be to definitley keep it below 15psi for shure to be safe.
