Diesel Day at Winterport Dragway 2011

Postby Richie O » Sun Jul 17, 2011 3:06 pm

Today was the diesel weekend at our 1/8 th mile track. I got 2nd this time. I broke out by .03 seconds so I frigged myself. The run before I had a 9.42 dial in, ran a 9.51 and within 5 minutes we went for the final round. I changed my dial in to 9.47 because the guy I was racing was pretty good at the tree and making runs. Anyway, for some reason I ran a 9.445 right after I had made the slower pass. I had been getting a little slower as the day heated up. I started making passes at 8:30 and as the heat came on I kept getting slower. I went from 9.38 to 9.41, to 9.44 all the way up to 9.51 a few runs. I thought I had a total handle on it, but bit myself in the butt. Anyway, very happy just the same. I have done drag racing twice now and got a 1st in 2009, and a 2nd today. Its pretty fun. I even did a 2 wheel drive pass in my final practice lap. I spun over 600 feet posi and then let off. Every one liked it.

I see the new camper! ;)

Congrats on the 2nd. Pretty good since you don't race all the time. 8)

Yup, thats the new ( old ) camper. I could use it but someone forgot to send me some lower spring lift blocks ( cough " mark " cough )

I was pretty happy with 2nd. When I won the first time out 2 years back I figured it was beginner's luck and would never see another final. My ole truck runs real true from run to run. It makes it easy for me to bracket race with it.

Very cool to see a 1st genner do good racing. So when you going to reward the old girl with a fresh paint job?

The original owner asked me the same thing. :| The truck is 100% rust free, so when the time comes it will be easy. The original owner never drove it in the salt, and I never have either. She gets parked in the winter months. I have so many projects now that I can't complete and I have no idea when the time will come.
