Pocket Dyno

How accurate are these apps for smart phones. Just got one so i'm playing around with it a little. Ran a 14.08 @ 95.79 in the 1/4 mile and a 8.96 @ 78.49 in the 1/8. 60 ft of 2.08 seconds and came in with 293 whp. Did a 10 psi boosted launch. Wonder if that messes anything up.

- Dunno about the app. (I figure it's pretty smart if I can remember the phone number that goes with the name I scroll to in the phone :D ).

- Based on my experience, your speed is pretty good in the eighth.

How much does your truck weigh?

What size tires (diameter)?

Are you making your passes in 4WD?

What kind of boost are you seeing at the intake-log (on the side of the head) @ WOT, turbo @ full-song?

What kind of air-filter?

Are you running your passes with the KSB active?

What does your smoke look like at the top of 3rd gear (color/density)?

You say your trans is built, . . . what does that mean/entail?
If you were to compare the former stock converter to the new converter, how much tighter would you say it is?

I would say the ten psig launch may be testing your front clutch. Keep an ear out for it slipping as it engages the next gear during a pass. When you hear it, that means: (1) you just toasted that clutch and (2) you need to raise the line pressure and/or add more clutch/steels. The only way to know I guess is to run it till it pukes.
What kind of shafts do you have in the trans? My stock/OEM shafts did alright with 10psi launches, . . . 25+ psig, . .. . . not so much.

Weighs in at around 6000 with me and a full tank. Had some extra junk in the cab and toolbox. Probably closer to 6200lbs. 33x12.5 tires running in 4wd on passes. Hits 48 lbs for boost and drops to 45 when the governer hits. Air filter is whatever the ASA Modifieds intake comes with. Think its a AFE oiled filter. Charged 1000 miles ago. Ksb was not active. Smoke at wot in top of third is a just a mild black haze. The TC is a lot tighter then stock but probably isnt as good as a goerand. Im not worried about the trans breaking. Was wondering if a boosted launch would mess up the phones readings. Has transgo tf2 shift kit both bands are kevlar lined units. Kickdown band is a flex band. 5.0 kickdown lever and bolt in rear sprag. kolene steels and red eagle clutches. Direct clutch has 5 and forward is still 4. Kickdown linkage cranked way up. all internal hard parts are stock. Held up for 15000 miles so far of towing, dd, and a couple sled pulls. I built it on my flatbed in my driveway. Nothing to fancy.

I've got one of those apps on my phone, the big thing is having weight correct. First time I used it it said I had 600+ HP. I then figured out when I pulled the 2-3 shift my phone moved on the seat. Next time I tried it was within 12 HP of my dyno proven number. I then tried it in my friends truck it was 19 HP high from his dyno number. There is no way I would go around telling people about how much HP my truck has based on a app, I take it for what its worth. I have it more for trying 1/4 mile times and speed. But none the less its neat......and free.

I plan on going to the track and finding a dyno this summer. Seems like it would be nice for tuning though. Im not going to brag about 293 whp to anybody. Not for whats done to the truck.

293 seems low for what you have. According to the CompD calculator, I ran a best of 15.99, weight at 6100, putting me at 260 BHP or 240 WHP. I have stock turbo and injectors.
