Dual arm ladder bars.. or Just Block it solid

Postby JDGnut » Tue Jan 09, 2007 2:12 pm

Any advantages to running a dual arm bars.. or just block it solid and be done with it (with just a lower bar.)??? I know the dual arms will keep the axle from rotating.. but if its blocked would there be any advantage to doing both??? (Maybe if the rules stated we had to have 1in of travel.. )
Thanks,
Bryan

Doing both keeps your hitch up and keeps your geometry where you want it the best for maximum traction. If you just block it and run a single you can still deflect the leaf springs if they arent very heavy and still get axle wrap. If you just wanted to run one link and a block you can mount it above and below the axle at the rear to keep it from wrapping.

I would say it depends on what you're doing with the truck. If you're asking specifically about truck pulling, then blocking it (as long as you're allowed) and a single bar will work when properly fabricated. But as KTA said, it also depends on the stiffness and arch of your springs. If you're asking about drag racing or daily driving then you may be better off running a dual arm set up to allow the free movement while eliminating the wrap.

It would be for Pulling only.... We'll probably look at adding a top bar and blocks.. I worried the springs might be a little weak and are fighting us.. or making it worse.. On the drivers there a few things in the way, like the E-Brake cable/and bracket... Also not sure how to mount it to the top side of the axle... When the other Axle goes in, we'll weld bracket to the tube before its installed..
The bottem bars are pretty long.. They attach to the frame under the cab, just behind the cross member...
