Those Scheid pumps defuel really hard at high rpm....I would try to keep the engine in the 2500-3000rpm range. If you're clearing up all the smoke, you're probably to where the pump is defueling.

Turned my pump gear clockwise 1 tooth while looking at motor. When you say half way to head on urs is around 27...Do you mean between tdc line and head or center (at the tdc line)?
.. I also double ckd my valves...seem to be a touch on the tight side.Maybe that had something to do with my egts so high..

my valves were a touch tight and i loosend them up and it shifted the power band down, and i had better cruising power\bottom end. but took away from the mid range.

Easiest thing is to find a good used one to throw on it. If it snapped the shaft internally it'll be big bucks to fix.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I thought 14 mm pumps did not likey the high rpms? I don't think VE's are well suited for sled pulling.

92smokin_blacky on DTR has a 14mm VE. Placing him consistently in 2nd or 3rd in the 3.0" classes in ID...

I didn't know that. You should fill out your sig so we know what you have, it makes answering questions more accurate sometimes. ;)

Im not trying to sound discouraging but around here 900-1000hp on fuel is what it takes to even be competitive in 2.6" classes and around 550-600hp in the street diesel classes. I bet the open classes are closer to 1200hp on fuel.

Oh, I know. Trust me, I know all about 800hp "street" trucks pulling in the street class...

However, for his part of the country, that is dam impressive.

That's why I don't even go try my truck. I'd be lucky to make 2/3 the power some of the "street" guys do and they roll in at 2000 lbs heavier than my rclb. Ha!
