Higher rpms

Postby 89cumburb » Tue Feb 18, 2014 5:11 pm

Alright I'm lookin to hit some higher toms with my 93 cummins. I'm thinking the 4000s range other than a governor spring what will I need. I've herd that you need a balancer where can I find one and what size valve springs are suggested.

Assuming you're planning on having some usable power at 4000+ rpm, the biggest obstacle you'll run into is the fact of the VE's fueling characteristics. It fuels hard in the low engine rpm. If you go into the Dyno Numbers thread in this forum board, you'll see it in the power plots. Most have rolled-off a lot by 2500 ~ 3000. Good power can be made in the upper rpm with the VE, but it typically comes at the expense of lower rpm power.

My mess has made 400+ HP above 4000 rpm, but at the same time, the torque was way down by then.

What do you plan on doing at 4000+ rpm?

Sounds like you'll just be making noise then.
