Hp for 7s???

Postby DodgeFreak » Tue Jun 24, 2014 9:51 am

how many horses will it take to get a shortbox reg cab into the 7s.........in the 8th mile :D There is a kid down home that has sunk a ton of money into an old ford with a stroked small block that I'd like to run some day...but I'd like to keep it on the cheap also with out spray.

Traction is my biggest problem. I haven't ran again and won't until I can get some weight on my rear wheels.

It's my experience the 1st 100' or so is what sets the outcome. At 6400#, an 8.05 was the norm on a good day last year (@ 250ish ft elevation) and I'm suppose to be around 480hp. I've a best at that track of 7.98 or so IIRC.

Move the fuel tank to the center of the bed, problem solved. The 82 has little traction problems with 45gallons and a half full tool box. Of course that could be the soggy p pump motor too. That's soon to change.

I've still gotta get my RC tank in and possibly move the battery back there.

my "plans" are to have a ppump with 4 link rear (haven't figured all that out how I'm going to do it) fuel cell and battery in the back. I'm trying to find a step side so I can run my dually cab and chassis rear end. and I'll probably have a gutted cab, I'm probably going to cage it and box my frame (eventually). I figured with a Ppump I'll shoot for an easy 500hp I hope.....

I ran 10.1 on a tuned pump, Denny T 1, 4200 rpm spring, and dumping the clutch in 4x4 at 3500rpm. I also had 4.10s.

Re-work the fire wall and move the motor back as far as you can. That will give you a good bump in rear percentage without adding weight.

Do you have a video of that?? Because when I first read it I didn't really think about the 3500rpm part lol....Now I want to see it. I bet that shock loaded the hell out of things.

It was fun, that's for sure! 33x12.5 ATs and the steering bracket made lots of noises.

This is my favorite. I wished the vid was better so you can see the wheel jerking in my hand.

None. I had 2 years worth of truck pulls and drag racing on everything. I replaced nothing drivetrain wise. Stock clutch too. Myself and my buddy were amazed how much abuse I put that clutch through and wondered how the heck it still held.

And it wasn't a "shock" load as the clutch was out enough to load up the drivetrain. And it was more of a fast engagement vs a dump.
