My Compound Build Thread

Postby t_ruffcorn » Sat Feb 13, 2016 3:11 pm

Good afternoon everyone. Started tearing things down last night to get my project started to hopefully be able to hit the strip a few times this season. Flipped my manifold last night and bolted on the .7 housing to do some measuring. My s475 should be here sometime this week or early next week as well as my flanges from stainless diesel.

Good start. Now don't take as long as I have to get them done.

I've got around 3 weeks to get it done, everyone is on vacation so I have some room in the shop haha. I won't be building a downpipe yet though just going to a hood stack so I can get to testing and tuning quicker.

It's good to have a time limit. I didn't, and it ended up taking me 10 months to get mine done, and running. I'm trying to decide between a hood stack or just pulling my hood off, and running my exhaust up since I don't have my downpipe done yet, and I have to move it/I want to drive it more.

What turbine side did you get on your 475?

If I didnt push myself to get it done itd end up taking forever. that's the same reason for my hood stack haha. It's got a 1.32 a/r on it now figure I'll try that out, maybe drop a billet compressor wheel in it if need be. Ideally I'd like to get ahold of a 1.1 a/r but they are like 600 bucks....

Thanks. Yeah I went tight on my setup to get great spoolup (which it does even with the ported gate always open some). I have plans to swap both chargers for some higher flowing similar spooling units. Namely a pair of bw sxe chargers.

Yeah it's small enough I feel it should be coming on strong a little before 2 grand (I was surprised to find my gate sitting open a little bit yesterday with I think of well responsive it was). It has a 83/1.1 t4 turbine side, so it is pretty tight, but the math puts it at not hitting the choke point until well over 900whp, so I feel it's still loose enough to support any ve truck with no problems

I also have a couple other primary chargers I might test out, but I need to do an intake, so I have the ability to swap between 5" and 5.5" compressor covers

Tonights progress consisted of clocking the secondary, and final measurements. Ordered probably 90% of what ill need to get her running again. Just odds and ends left now. Took me a little white to click checkout on my orders tonight... put the hurt on my checkbook. But it'll be worth it hopefully!

I've found ordering 90% of the stuff you'll likely need nets about 70-80% of what you'll actually need on something custom like this. The amount of times I've had to made a parts run for something because I didn't have it is staggering, and I still have to get an exhaust clamp for my downpipe, and 1/8" air line for my boost gauges
