P pumping

Postby redneckroot » Mon Sep 22, 2008 7:01 am

I'm in the debate of P- Pumping my truck mainly because I want to be able to do well at the truck pulls. What is needed to P- Pump my 90? I know I need a pump, gear, and timing housing. Do I need lines? What about injectors? Will my head work or do I need that too? I want to see how far in the hole I will go before I decide whether to do it or not.

It is usually always chepaer to just buy a 96 or 97 complete engine and swap it than to get all the parts you need to convert a 1st gen engine. ;)

It depends on how good at rigging stuff up you are. As far as I know you need:
1.pump
2.front cover
3.gear
4.lines
5.linkage

Talk to SMOKIN93 here on 1st gen, he just converted his over and said it wasn't that hard. The pump will be the main expense, it'll be about 500-1000 for the pump alone if it is in good order and a 180 or 215 pump, I think 160s go for a little less.

What i'm looking at is right now i have the motor out of my truck and with the purchase of my 05 I was thinking about going full out with this one (or atleast as full out as i can go on limited money). I'm just wondering if it would be better to spend the money to P pump it now then dump money and a ton of time into the VE to never be able to achieve the same power. Its not that I don't want to run the VE its just I want to make the most power for truck pulling as I can.
So here is what I'm seeing that I need, pump, gear, cover, lines. But do I need to also replace the injectors with 2nd gens? If so will they fit in the 90 head? I'm new to diesel stuff, but racing cars has gotten out of my price rang so its on to truck pulling.

You will need 2nd gen injectors for the pop pressure and the line connection but they need to have 1st gen tips in them for the spray angle.

I didn't think that 2nd gen injectors fit in 1st gen head cause the bodies are different

if ya do what kta said and buy a 96 or 97 engine it will be a lot easier and prolly a lot cheaper too

you'll have your inj bodies n all

dont look at that motor wrong tho....or you will have too much fuel for your low dollar combo

don

ps - all out and limited dollar dont really belong in same sentance

Well can you make pop pressure the same as the 2nd gen injectors using the 1st gen injector bodies also what is the pop pressure set as
90 W250 4x4 5spd pump Ve cranked wide open, BHAF, HX35 with all 2.5" intake piping, and 4" straight piped
92 W250 4x4 5spd P-pumped B1B over B2 are on and now slippy clutch

No, because the p-pump injector lines are bigger and they won't thread on to a 1st gen injector body. Just get a set of stocker 2nd gen sticks and throw a set of 1st gen tips in, easy day.
