It should give us SOP'er's something to talk about around the campfire though this year  . That is since we haven't had any Stomp material to talk about for a couple years   .

I'm not after glory, this is after all a science experiment. Heck, somebody has to try some different ideas once and a while. Those kind of ideas made guys like stomp and KTA stand out. If the new idea works the VE losses the term "power challenged" and that will be all the glory we need.

It's not about how much fuel you puke out the stack, rather it's about how much you can burn, and turn into torque applied to work.

Well, off to rest and then back in the shop before work, there's one more hook this year and I intend to at least try to scare a duramax owner or 2.

As well has had the 70mm compressor that is found on the GT4294, not the 74mm found on the GT4202.

If some one could give me some insight as too which one's (years, or models or...) came with the GT4202 it would be much appreciated.

I have stared at these 3 gt42's for hours thinking about changing the turbine side and running one as a single, so this thread was good affirmation that it works. However I am still to chicken, and will just run it as is as a primary.

dvst8r,

I can tell you a few things about the gt42 turbos made for detroit diesel 60 series engines. They are a competitive copy of the KKK K31, BUT the compressor wheel seems to be radically more agressive. The GT42 is easy to spot because of the detroit diesel logo cast on the compressor cover, but I know that volvo and cat used them as well. I will speak mainly on the ones DDC put out there as they are pretty easy to come by. The color of the tag has meaning red=remanufactured, green=OEM. One should be aware that DDC/garrett had trouble with compressor wheel faliures on early GT models the redesigned ones are marked GTA on the tag. Next there were GT4294 AND GT4202 turbos used on 50-60 series engines, My 4202 is from a 500HP 14.4L the 4294 is found on lower HP 14.4-12.7L engines. There was a 50 Series engine as well (4 cylinder 60) which was used in transit buses, it had an oddball GT4294 with a .91 A/R T6 turbine which was gated. That .91 housing is not an A/R available from garrett as a service part, so if you find one it might be worth fooling with. The exhaust housings are interchangable between all the Gt42's. A/R's were available in .91, 1.01, 1.15, 1.28, 1.44 gated and non-gated and possibly other A/r's as well. There were a few real low HP models with the GT4088.

Hope that helps.

Yes it does :D

Thank you.

Those bugs can be tough. A buddy of mine with a 1st gen p-pump puller has been trying to work out the bugs for about 3 or 4 years lol. Lots of disappointment, trailer to the event, wait, wait and wait some more to hook, then when it comes his time, break at the line, not get off the line, charger won't spool, toooo much bounce during the first 100 feet etc etc. He's just about got it figured out now. I think he's got the truck to lay down now, but it took the past few years and the last pull of the season this year to do it.

Good music too. Reckless Kelly has to be my favorite band of all time.

Which Reckless Kelly song is in the video?

did you measure your input shaft? not trying to be a bg, that for sure, but sb said mine ('97) was 1 3/8" and it only measures 1.220 (10 spline)

maybe your trans was outta a chevy or something else dont think they ever used larger than 1.25 in dodge trucks (some older trannies were only 1"!

1.25 is the stock size nv4500 shaft. The 1 3/8 is an aftermarket upgrade.
