1st Gen Street Puller

Postby ryanihf250 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 1:53 pm

1st pull this season with the 1st Gen at the Washington, GA pull. It did pretty good got 1st in 7,500lb despite trying to pull in 2nd High. 8,500lb class I got 2nd, Will Harris beat me by 75ft in his VP Powered Dodge.

Your heavy class hook looks much better

Did it have a slight miss when you pulled the light class?

Yeah I tried 2nd high in 7,500lb and then dropped back to 1st High in 8,500lb. Yeah i thought it had a small skip after the light class too. I now have a injector leaking and two leaks now on the pump might be a cause. That sled is heavy and hard to start off.

185ft in 7,500lb class and 210ft for 8,500lb. That is the shortest distance we have pulled there, it got late.

With your 4.10's you should be pulling 3rd low. In 1st it didn't seem like it loaded the motor hardly any. If you still have a problem snuffing in 3rd low and don't want to go to a smaller tire just drop your hitch about 3-4 inches. I think you will do much better if you have the clutch to hack it.

Appreciate the advice, I am in process of trying to find some 33's to try to keep in that gear. Yeah I have a south bend double disk clutch 3,600 so it will hold.

So why didn't you try 3rd low on any of those hooks, since it is in between 2 hi and 1 hi? I hope you get it rocking, looks like some more fuel wouldn't hurt anything either. 8)

I was scared that the heavy class(extra 1,000lb on the front) would kill it in 8,500 class, So I went with trusty 1st Hi. I just put the 4.10 in it this winter and I didn't have a chance to test pull to get my gears straight. Last year I had 3.55 ratio pulling. It would be nice to get some more fuel but money is tight. KTA any ideas for cheap hp, most of my mods are in signature.

Looking pretty good. I agree that low 3rd would be a good choice.

I'd be scared to use high side anything hooked to the sled. I've seen way to many trucks break the input shaft of the t-case, or the coupler when using high side. Even v-8 gas trucks with old 4 speeds and 205s. Put your gear reduction as far away from the trans as possible.

Have you seen any of the videos of 2nd gear hi letting go in a diesel puller? A buddy of mine, with a p-pumped 24 valve lost the engine when the transfer case input broke.

Another friend of mine has a p-pumped offroad truck with 727/205 combo with rockwells. He wheeled it Memorial day weekend. He put it in hi-4 to run up a sand hill and sheared off the input in the t-case. That particular truck is running stock charger, no intercooler, and a tight convertor. The co-pilot saw 40 psi of boost going up the sand hill. Granted the auto has a smaller input, it was a 4000# offroad truck blasting up a sand hill, not pulling anything.

Appreciate that. I have alot of work to catch up to the other trucks but it is coming along. I think I finally found some used 33in tires so they may be on for the Washington pull.

I was kindof dissappointed in the dyno run that it did that day it put down
368hp/800tq. I believe i need more fuel pressure!
