Dynoed again...........little better

Postby GLHS » Tue Apr 21, 2009 1:09 pm

I heard the "Cummins Forum" was having a dyno day in Ft. Collins last Sat. so, I paid them a visit.

This is my best yet at this elevation (5000); 531 diesel and 581 water/meth with 1.15 correction. That seems to come out to 461 diesel and 505 water meth.
461 x 1.15 = 530.15
505 x 1.15 = 580.75

Considering basically doing nothing since last fall and still having a air in fuel problem I was happy.

Don't know what has happened to my water/meth system; it used to consistently make 80-100 corrected more hp.

Great numbers GLHS.I was hoping to make it.But 20inches of snow in woodland park changed my plans.Nick was telling me, there was another guy with a p-pumped 1stgen?

Yes; it was a 1990, dual disked Getrag, 3.07 geared (with huge rear slicks and no front driveshaft), supposed 13 mm p-pump, twins, nitrous and.........?????

I think corrected it did 540 on fuel and 705 on nitrous before it popped a freeze plug at 4250rpm.

Honestly and with no disrespect meant, it was quite a cobble job and he could probably gain 100 hp if he/they had someone else do the turbo plumbing.

I think I got 20-30 more diesel only hp in this thing before I give in to internal mods.
If I could get the water/meth system figured out, maybe another 40-50 on top of that. :D

Only 705rwhp with twins and nitrous? I have a little more respect for my brothers truck now.

No, not rwhp; corrected hp.
613 rwhp x 1.15 = 704.95 corrected whatever you want to call it hp.

If assuming 15% drivetrain loss, these corrected numbers are actually about dead on for crank hp at this elevation.

Hey GLHS,

I am looking to run a similiar injector/turbo set up in the future. What type of headwork do you have done? Studs? O-Rings?
What lift pump are you running? What PSI do you have you wastegate set at? Sorry for all of the qusetions. Those dyno #'s are damn good by the way.

The entire long block ie; head, cam, tappets, block, gaskets.........etc is all 185,000 mile original.
The only thing I have done internally are the 60# valve springs.
Wastegate is blocked off. It makes about 44 psi in the winter and drops a couple in the summer.

The lift pump is an Air Dog 100.
I have been reading so many problems with these and Fass systems, I'm about ready to throw in the towel. Worked good at first but is getting worse.
My advice to ANYONE thinking of installing one of these systems would be to mount it as low as physically possible. Most of these setups are made to mount on the frame rail with the head of the unit at or above the top of fuel tank. Well, it's not working out. I feel these electric pumps are just not able to handle sucking fuel up first, then pushing.
My advice is use a cheaper and easier Walbro 392 or an Aeromotive type pump in conjuction with a bypass regulator and mount it low on the frame rail.
Hellmann performance also has a nice looking fuel "sump" to mount in the tank that seems to be working well.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get to work on this Air sucking, misfiring, stumbling Dog!

Rant over.

mm biggest problem is they cant suck in a closed system. Unless your cap is vented you have issues
Second problem is the draw straw is tooo small stock
third problem is no electric pump likes to draw through a screen or filter first
fourth problem is few if any electric pumps last very long unless below the tank
fifth problem is too small lines usually including fittings
sixth problem is internal bypasses rarely work properly (fass airdog etc)
seventh problem is poor or improperly installed
