Postby Cummins Junkie » Mon Nov 23, 2009 12:09 pm

Has any one thought of this, since we have leaf springs in the front also? Just a thought, what do you guys think?

I did this on my mud truck years ago, only benefit with the 38.5's that I seen was the front didn't bounce as hard when climbing a steep hill full throttle. All I used were hiem joints and straight DOM tube, only two mounting points per side, not the three with a "ladder bar".

Well that old truck has become ten other trucks since I retired it lol. It was just two bottom links attached at the bottom of the tube, close to the knuckles and attached to the frame even with the back of the transfercase. Straight forward two link set-up pretty much. Two pieces of 1.5" DOM, 4 7/8" hiem joints and link tabs on frame and axle.

I get my hiem joints, bushings ect. from this guy. www.ruffstuffspecialties.com

I think for street use though you would need your links coming off the front. In the setup pictured the links are fighting the articulation of the axle. The bars are fixed on the same end as the shackle which is free, so now both ends act like they are fixed so it has to ride terribly rough. If both ends were fixed in the front and parallel the axle would be free to move up and down still via the spring movement and the flex allowed by the shackles.
