Any one ever use one of these? For a little more than the cost of one dyno run in town here,I could record 60 ft,1/8 mile,1/4 mile,0-60,g-graphs,cornering and traction lights,and an intelligent shift light,and horsepower and torque.I figure the horsepower and torque numbers would be off,but could be calculated against the acceleration times.It,d also be really handy for tuning. Thinkin of getting one in a couple months,what y'all think?

We had one well a model or ten prior to this one, used it on several different cars. They are fairly accurate think it said my mustang ran 14.01 and I ran a 13.99 at the track.

I have a g-tech that has been used on several vehicles. If the weight is entered accurate and it is set up right I have always had the power it shows be within 20hp max of a dynojet.

Sounds good to me. At 150 bucks for one dyno run here,I might just as well spend an extra 50 bucks for one of these units, and dyno whenever and wherever I want.

I don't know what kind of phone you have but my new Droid has an app that has one of those type deals. Com the reviews I've seen on it its just like KTA said. As long as the weight is in, its pretty close.

with some handy dandy calculaions one could pretty easily calculate the work needed to accelerate a truck if you had the weight and time from vinitial to vfinal, only stuff that would screw it up would be friction and loss of power through gearing

Glad to hear from someone who has been on a dyno and knows how close the GTech really is.

Finally got up the nerve - and curiousity - to see what my GTech might say.

Using it to measure HP - start with a quick shift into a higher gear and the mash the throttle fast enough to go fast but not enough to downshift - and I got some interesting ##'s :
HP = 235.0 @ 2968
TQ = 428.6 @ 2811
I was into 3rd w/OD out at ~ 30mph, maybe I need to mash faster .

Then trying a REAL 1/4 mi from a dead stop the ##'s got VERY interesting:
HP = 387.1 @ 3009
TQ = 725.3 @ 2722
1/4 mi time@speed was 16.449 @ 99.29.
Minimal wheel spin but definitely there because my 1/8th was only 11.162 @ 69.52.
Speed seems high but could these be REAL ??
OH - my EGT's - both times - went north of 1800* and then dropped back to under 1000* in about 3 seconds when I let off the throttle.
That's cooking !
But surprisingly, with the 35lb spring in the AFC the smoke wasn't a black out but definitely there and cleared up ~ 3/4 way through both runs.

If you get odd results, usually something was off. I've gteched about 50 cars, and it's pretty darn accurate as long as you are on a flat road. It will also record shift spikes, just like a dyno, so make sure your "peak hp" isn't on a shift spike. We tested it on my buddy's Chevelle which ran 12.0 at the track and he ran a 12.43 on the street, which is pretty close, considering the tracked hooks a lot better. Tested it on a 300zx turbo at the track and it hit 12.63 against a 12.63 for the track clocks. MPH will usually be 3-5 mph high though because tracks average the speed for the last 60 ft instead of recording pure exit speed.

I think the reason one run was so far off is because I let the trans shift into 3rd about 30mph and then rolled into the throttle instead of flooring it.
GTech says not to get into it too hard and cause a downshift.

But I'm really pleased with the full 1/4 from a dead stop. Although I think I could've done better. The truck was idling and I just floored it.
I think I could load it to about 10 psi or so which should get a faster time but I don't think it'll affect the HP much.

Considering the TC is only a "HD" and a single clutch it slips but not as much as the stock '93 TC. I'm planning on a triple clutch later this year.
AND I understand Dave Gorend has a couple of VB mods that will allow locking the TC in 2nd when using manual shifting. That way I could hold the 2nd gear a little longer. Right now the 2 -> 3 shift is about 45 - 50 mph which should be about 2600 RPM - below the TQ peak and well below the HP peak. I've always shifted about the HP peak which drops you back to TQ peak or just below.

PLUS - I forgot I had 2 5gal cans of diesel in the truck so the weight is probably off close to 70lbs or so.

Please IGNORE the last post :(

It appears that when my GTech battery died and I replaced it I did not get all the calibration numbers set correctly.
MOST importantly - vehicle weight was off....Not over as I'd suspected but waaayyyy low. It was reading 3500 lbs...
Where did the other half of my truck go ??

Since then I've upgraded the firmware which means totally resetting all parameters.
Not that it's much of a job, but
I need to find my optical tach so I can set the RPM's at the high and low settings.
With my lockup TC I was thinking I might be able to find a straight, flat stretch of hiway and set my speed 75 which should be 2700 rpm in 3rd NO OD.
Then I could set low rpm by setting the speed to 30mph which should be 1100 rpm.
GTech says you can do it this way, but I've never tried...

Well, the weather's supposed to be nice tomorrow.....
Then MORE SNOW Mon, Tues, Wed, and some on Thurs.....OH BOY :(

Even if you don't have an rpm signal, your hp will still be accurate as long as your weight is right. We tested one at the track, and after some fiddling (pitch correcton) it was within 2 hundreths and 4 hundreths of the track times.
