My 1st gen VS a SMFWD pulling truck

Postby moparman87 » Fri Jan 07, 2011 9:50 pm

LOL jk, This is my cousins SMFWD pulling truck, The Studley Studabaker. Just got done installing an all aluminum Keith Black Olds block with NHRA pro mod Pontiac aluminum heads, new blower and polished manifold. Fired it up to set fuel a little, then decided to hook it to the dually and put a lil heat in it to see where it was at. Well, too much timing and a fuel leak, which leaned out the motor, caused major head damage, snapped every stud off the blower manifold and bent every single connecting rod. She has been resting in the trailer ever since and Bob hasnt been the same. Hopefully he makes a comeback this year and I get to see all our hardwork win a couple pulls. Anyways here's the vid.............

That sure is a shame. It sounded like it was gonna be one nasty little motor. I'm sure his wallet dry heaved.

Did they use ether to start that? Sure looked like it. If so, that was pretty stupid!

Wow that hurts. They usually use a squirt bottle of alcohol to get them to fire I believe.

Ya it had plenty of break in time, it's not our first rodeo lol, just got too aggressive on the timing and with the fuel leak it got way too lean and grenaded.......and he was using gas, alcohol evaporates too quickly

ya, usually its gas to fire it up and sometimes squirt some deicer on the butterflies to keep them from icing over from the alcohol.

Been a while since Ive been here, Just saw the video man thats a shame bout the motor. Did he get it back together? how did they end up the season in points? By the way I used to help a friend of mine with his truck and we pulled against Bobs father Jon back in the early 80s. :D

It's in the process of being rebuilt as we speak. He didnt make it out for any pulls last year and will prolly only do half a dozen or so this year. What truck did u help with? I'm sure Bob remembers and prolly has it on film. He has a ton of videos.

Glad to hear its back together, is Bob busy building motors for customers? Hope they are well. Tell him and his Mother to look for a red Dodge truck called ( slo-mo-shun) on the videos, they should remember.Quick story for you, Richart Ford used to have pulls at thier dealership on Hamilton Rd. if I remember right they pulled there for three or four years in a row, anyhoo we were there one nite and I almost talked Bobs dad Jon into letting me ride shotgun in the Green Demon (when it had 2 motors for exhibition runs) at the last minute he changed his mind. Good thing during his pull it chucked a big rock thru the glove box took the door off. right about where my head would of been...!

Bob is out of the engine building business now since Jon is gone. He does side jobs once in a while but only for rare or top end stuff. Just dropped a HEMI in a 56 Cornet a few months back. That was SWEEEEET!!! He owns his own big rig and is in the process of building up a fleet right now. I'll have to keep an eye out for that truck next time we get drunk and watch old films. I can't believe Jon was gonna let u ride period!!! LOL But ur right, good thing u didnt LOL I was at a pull with Bob a really long time ago it seems and it was blazing hot ,so i was gonna go sit in the stands for the shade but decided not to for some reason, and he ended up snapping a rear drive shaft and chucked it up into the crowd. CRAZY!!
