Went racing last night. For some reason, I took the crew cab instead of my SRT4. Noticed as soon as I got there that the steering box was falling off the frame again (it was doing this when I got the truck, and i used loctite putting it back together). Managed to get 2 of the 3 bolts tightened up without much effort and called it good enough. Got 8 runs in, most of which were figuring out a way to launch it. Seems I could either bog it or blow the tires off...there wasn't much in between. Here's the best-

R/T: .248
60': 2.43
1/8: 10.61 @ 67.31
1/4: 16.54 @ 82.6

Pulled a bunch of 17.1's. Put another 1/2 turn on the fuel screw, and went 16.99. Let it sit for about 30 mins and then pulled 16.54. This was done with a HX35, POD's, banks ic, 4" staight pipe, about 3.5 turns on the fuel screw, turned fuel pin, bhaf, NV4500 and 3.54 gears with 315 tires. I would guess the weight somewhere around 6800, and who knows the hp. I'm satisfied with the results, but don't think I'll be trying it again. The track workers didn't like my leaky truck, and every launch I was waiting for the D60 rear to grenade all over the start line.

According to your runs and your weight I calculate you at just under 300rwhp. 8)

Good numbers Jeff! 8) You are right on the money on the weight 6800-6900 according to how much fuel you had.

Yeah, good job for me...the next morning it developed a hard starting problem. The IP drips fuel from the power screw, and I think I might have a dead lift pump. I pumped the lever trying to prime it to see if it would start easier, and there is next to no resistance when moving the lever. Is that normal??

When I still had the diaphram pump on mine it never did seem like you were doing anything with the lever. I had an occasional hard start problem till I installed the "sexy" piston pump, it went away then so my pump must have been weak as well.

Jeff:
Here is the recipe for cooking up the sexy piston lift pump:

3936320 1 Lift pump.
3914284 1 Block to lift pump spacer.
3914753 1 Fuel line.
3939258 2 Gaskets.
3918191 2 Banjo bolt seals.

When you install the new sexy pump you have to remove some of the sound deadening material from the tappet cover. The way I did it was cram your 4" angle grinder in there and grind till you see sparks, you will need this room for the pump and line to fit up against the block.

What Tim said on the grinding! :D I put a cutter wheel on my 4" grinder, just went easy on it. Sparks mean stop! and readjust. I sprayed some black paint in there to cover up the bare metal also. Drill out the side holes in the banjo bolts if you haven't already. 11/64 bit I think. 8) [/i][/b]

When I had by banjo bolts out I bored them out quite a bit the lenght of the bolt, can't remember how much though :? and elongated the 4 holes @ the head. If you look at the 4 holes you will notice that they are not lined up, 2 are at one elevation and the other 2 are at a different elevation. Mine are all at the same elevation now as well as bigger in diameter. Do I have you throughly confused yet? Anyways I think that it flows more this way.

I used a die grinder and small rotery file and carved mine out like a Zipcut. You can cut curves that way. Just another way if you like.

Where can I get those part numbers at? I tried reliable goods, and the only ones the part finder recognized was the pump and the banjo seals. I hear Cummins in Ft. Wayne is pretty high priced if you are not a truck shop. I can get the piston pump at my other job at a parts store with my discount. How does an aftermarket unit compare to a cummins part?

Do you have a Case or Case/IH dealer nearby? Change the 1st 3 to a J, same parts! :D
