I don't really see the point of hockey. A bunch of grown men chasing a small black thing. Meh that's boring to me, like where's the crashes, and explosions, and burnouts.

And I don't have the trees that make syrup in my neck of the woods.

I also have a mechanic career under way, and that gives me a fair bit to do, but I still don't get out much besides that.

nice to hear about your stuff coming in. Kind of brings the thread back on topic a bit

I cut mine about 1/2" shorter after cracking the bottom/rearmost thrust bearing trying to seat the round snap ring. Works good.

Just a tip for all you rookie transmission builders out there: if you need a handle for the jack in your press, something is bound up.

The two halves are now together.

Could I have installed my rear band backwards? I recall even with the original strut I could never get the strut in place with the band around the drum. If I had a 6" band instead of 6.25" I wouldn't even be close. Or maybe the other side of the band isn't sitting right?

Thoughts?

Idk.....there's no pic to look at to see. Post pic. In all honesty I have never had an issue, the band usually falls in place against the case anchor.

Have you backed the adjustment all the way off?

Adjustment is all the way out. When I have the strut sitting on the band, it's all I can do to get the strut to bet within 1/8th on fan inch under the apply lever. If I have time today I'll open it up and get a pic.

I sent the old band back right away, so I can't compare it to that. I'll take it apart once more before being stumped.

Caleb I've never had issues installing those bands. It's always just went together, two tabs down/one up and dropping drum.

I've a few good used bands floating around if you need one.

You sent your old band where? I'm not following you there

That sounds like you are talking about a double wrap band. I have a single wrap band. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. I still need to take it apart because an hour of dicking with it doesn't fix it.

Correct.....this is a 47rh right? Why Dick with a single rap?

Never have I sent back a band, ever. If you need a double rap band I'll send you one at lunch tomorrow.

If I'm not horrible mistaken a double rap band will fit,I believe there is one in my trans in the 82.

I'm rebuilding a 518. They're single wrap bands. Same as 727s.

Hell I wouldn't be having half of this problem with a double wrap band. Isn't a double wrap band's strut the adjuster? Easy, but I don't have the double wrap apply lever. 518 rear bands use the same set up as the kick down band. Except it's apply lever-> "wedge"-> strut-> band instead of lever-> strut-> band-> wedge.

Yes, your 47RH is double wrap.

I'll get pics tomorrow.

I sold it to tampabaybill years ago.

So I unbolted the pump, slid the rotating assembly out, took the rear drum out, and popped the strut in that way. It moves freely and doesn't drag so all is good. Took 10 minutes 8)

My band has little nibs cast into it that hold the strut in place. Those nibs wouldn't let the strut sit all the way down in the pocket when installing it from the top with the drum in place. Taking the drum out let it flex enough.

BC, Sutter, txs, or any other 518 folks, ever run into this or is it just me?

Time to go shift kit shopping.

Larry at TransGo recommended the TF-OD Diesel kit. Makes sense since the descripting says "great for towing". This truck is a daily driver first, a tow rig second, and a toy third. I have one on the way.

The moment of truth is fast approaching!

Sure.....listen to a salesman. nevermind about all the "experienced" folks telling you the same.

IIRC I had to put the band in the same way. It was about 30 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday, uhhhh, ummmm, kid!
