reverse pattern is just like it says. d is low, 2 is 2nd, 1st is high gear. as far as i know no one sells the kit for the od trans. they only sell the complete valve body. the 3 speed takes a special steel plate which i dont know if it is still available but if it is the reverse pattern 3 spd. is easy to do.

bought it from A an A trans. 600 plus a special low and reverse servo. the shims need to be checked when building the trans. the od clutch piston shim and the intermediate shaft clearance shim. they are critical to a proper 3rd to od and od to 3rd shift. if not correct one can get a flare up or a bind up when it shifts. needless to say i had all the shims but the 2 i needed so will have to order monday.

well this old man hit another snag. seems the dealer in chattanooga cant find the part number for the intermediate shaft selective spacer. it has to be installed with snap ring pliers. sent me the pics he has and it isnt any wonder he cant find it. it is not in his parts book. there are only 4 sizes and i need the thickest one. any help out there. the thing is about the size of a half dollar if anyone remembers those things.

most of the parts in the front half of the 518 and 727 will inter-change BUT not all. valvebody of course is diff. low and reverse drum and band is diff in the diesel. may be some more small parts but cant remember. it has been over 10 years since this old man did much mixing and matching on these things.

More specifically I'm interested in the shifters will they interchange or will I need a plate specific to the 518

trans is done just got to wait on a buddy to help get the old one out and the od bolted up. old man cant handle this heavy stuff any more. once he gets that done i can modify cross member as needed and get the driveshaft cut and balanced. with 3.21 gear it ought to be a nice all round street machine.

finally got the trans in. it doesnt shift any harder than the 3 speed but is a little harsh for street. with the diesel though unless i am showing out never use anything but 3rd and 4th. 4th shift is absolutely perfect for this old man though. made my 82 come ALIVE at highway speeds. :D
