NV4500 1 3/8 input

Postby GLHS » Tue Aug 07, 2007 9:36 pm

If I find a junk NV 5600 with a 1 3/8 input shaft, can I swap it into a 2001.5 NV 4500?
At what hp level do the 1 1/4 inputs break?

I would say no. The big input shaft for the 4500 is a billet piece, not from the 6 speed. The small shaft can break at stock hp levels, just depends on how stupid the driver wants to get while on the pavement.

No but you could take the 1 3/8 from a late nv5600 and swap it into an early 1 1/4 nv5600. The 5600 is a huge pain to work on though so I would just shell out the $700 or so for the Nv4500 big shaft and be done with it. My stock 1 1/4 getrag shaft6 is still holding but I drive it like its made of glass. 8)

OK, next question. What else do I need to do to make a 4500 hold up to drag strip launches. I've been looking at the "silver and "gold" series shafts on QUAD 4x4s website. Is this needed?
Brian; Even if you do drive it easy it sounds like it still holds up very well with all that power. The Getrag is underrated!

It can and does hold the power fine. The getrag actually has BIGGER gears in it than the nv4500, but the 4500 has lot better bearings, and that is where I see the getrags failing. I would get ahold of Jeff Prince and see what he says on the NV4500. He is the fastets most abusive nv4500 racer I know of and did it for several runs so perhaps he can give you some insight.

Would you happen to know the website or number for him?
I have found stuff about him but, no number.
