Finished the project for right now...

Took pan off and drilled a hole, installed drain plug kit

New High Flow Brass filter from TCI. Screen is very fine, but you can still kinda see my car thru it.

Filter was for 727 application. As you can see it is identical for the 518.

And finally the new fill:

Did you do a 50/50 mix?

I filled it on hy-guard but since a pan drop only changes some of the fluid, thats probably about where Im at.

I can always use my drain plug now to change it soon again without hassle of taking pan off and filter. And now my tranny filter is easier to change than my oil filter.

On a side note, one thing I noticed was that after I hooked up the new lines and filter, i took it around the block. I never realized how fast and how hot ATF gets. I could burn my hand on the filter if it was idling in neutral.

Another thing I noticed was that the rubber hose going from the filter to the cooler was significantly less hot than the one into the filter.

Do you use tractor transmission oil instead of ATF?
Is that really ok to do?

This was my first time trying the tractor oil. Im still at a light pink mix right now. I need to pick up another gallon of hygard and drain out a gallon of whats in there and replace it. I want to get it almost clear on the dipstick if I can.

So far so good, it didnt really tighten the converter alot but it seems to help control it a little. It seems to idle just a tad bit lower in gear. Il have to see if I get a difference in fuel milage next tank.

Other than that, it seems to shift nice and firm and all that, but I also had the line pressure turned in a little from last time.

Il let you guys know if I encounter any problems and have to switch back to the ATF or blow the tranny.
