Is it noisy?
Ellis, we (I'm sure others agree) appreciate you going to all the trouble to document this with pics.
This definitely shrieks "Sticky!".

With any luck, it'll be many more years for the tranny, after this.
Funny, but over the last 3 days, there have been 3 getrags croak around me.

I sold a bunch of cores a while back and I wish I had them now.
I could probably rebuild and sell half of them this week.

Good post. My Getrag sounds like it's got a bad input shaft bearing, so I'll be pulling out the truck pretty soon.

Thank You for documenting all this, I have rebuilt the getrag before but I learned a few things I didn't even know about. If You could please explain more about the part where You drive IN the synchros I will appreciate it, 2nd gear on mine will jump out if I don't keep My hand resting on it and it might be what You said above that it isn't fully engaged. I'm saving a copy of this thread for My personal file when You are finished with it, Thanks.

I'm pretty much thru with it ;)

The driving on of the synchro is pretty much straight forward, being the roll pin holes are blind in the first and second gears I just pry them off and drive them back on with either a pin punch or a sacrificial socket of some kind. You WILL need to pay close attention to how it goes back on,watch that you do not bend the roll pin or synchro backing. Also depth is not an issue, basically once against the gear your good, lest it has been in my experience.
With yours jumping out of gear I'd look hard at the small teeth the collector engages. Look for any rounded edges, thats the number one cause of a manual trans to pop out of gear. People normally cause it by using the grind it till you find it approach.

Great post!

Reading through, and collecting parts to do my G360, should I replace the needle bearings too?
All the master kits I've found do not include them and it seems that they should be replaced...

They don't tend to give problems, only when ran low of lube will they need replacement. Basically if the needles are of a blue-ish color replace them,if not run them. Food for thought......if your needles go bad the the shaft and/or gear is gonna be screwed as well 90% of the time.

Also, the synchros all look really good on mine. I never used the tranny, but was told it was starting to make noise is why it was pulled...probably input bearing. But, even though the rings look good, would it be best to change them out?
I personally like to do things when something is apart...I was just surprised at how good these look
