Dana 71 carrier questions

Postby Tacoclaw » Sun Apr 01, 2012 4:30 pm

Alright, I'm pulling the trigger on a locker for my truck. Going with a lock-rite, which just replaces the spiders.

Question is, is there any difference between the actual carriers of a 70 and a 71? I know I've read that they are interchangeable, but I just want to know for sure so I'm asking the specific question.

I've got 35 spline axles, just want to know if that's the only detail I'll need.

Thanks.

Carriers are the ame from 70 to 71. Just watch the spline count.

Much appreciated, Philip. 8)

In your truck? What was their reasoning?

I could see it getting wasted in a truck that pulled trailers or really high hp/traction setup, but even on our street driven trucks...?

Heh, I layed out a nasty one-legged-dog coming out of the underpass. It looks like someone did a 1st to 2nd shift, but that would actually be a 2nd to 3rd. It carried 3rd forever.

I know you're proud of your pee pump, but I doubt you'll have any traction problems in 4wd. :P

Where's South Webster? I may actually cruise up there with you if it's cool. I doubt I'll have anything going on by that point.

Wait a minute, you've got to pull the guts out of the axle for a Detroit. Not happening for me right now.

Justin, what did you do to my thread? This used to be about carriers. :P

Lol and they handle so bad, and it feels like they are flexing (or spinning? idk) when you are layed into it about 40mph locked up.

And its probably 10-15 minutes south of oak hill, I can pick ya up if ya want. I'll be leaving from cheshire. Also I will be leaving soft so hopefully I won't break haha.

Hey, this thread is still about traction somewhat, which has to do with carriers

Why in the hell would I want to ride in your truck when I have a perfectly good one of my own? Is it a street vehicle night? I might take mine down for a few passes.
