The early (first couple of years of production) Chevy NV4500's had a lower first gear (6.34 vs. 5.61 in the Dodge) and a different 3rd gear ratio (I can't remeber specifically but I think it was lower in the Dodge). I read several years ago in an off road magazine about somebody (an aftermarket company) combining the first out of a Chevy and third out of a Dodge for a lower first with a more even gear spread from 2nd-4th. I am sure there are other differences, but those are the ones I know about. After a couple years of production, the Chevy and Dodge trans matched gearing (i.e. 5.61 first and same 2nd and 3rd gears). The 6.34 1st gear Chevy NV4500's are supposed to be pretty rare.

Different input shaft sizes, and guess who's a whole lot beefier? I believe Advance Adapters and others have kits to change the puny Shoveme input shaft up to Dodge Cummins specs.
