84 D150 Trans question

Postby azsnow » Wed Aug 15, 2012 1:02 pm

I am new to the forum as well as 1st Gen Mopars, and yes I have already introduced myself, anyway I am having a trans issue where when shifting from 2nd to drive it feels as if it is slipping. The truck is in pretty good shape, but I dont think regular maintenance was done on this thing! I am thinking of doing a rebuild, but do not want the truck to be inop so I am seeking a core. If its something that can be adjusted...how the hell do I do it? The truck has a 318/auto, so is the trans a 727? Are there different lengths? I have always been a GM guy, so know about those, but not much about these! Thanks for any help rendered in advance!

There is a good possibility that the trans is a 904. I would climb under the truck and take a look at the number on the side of the case. As long as nothing is burned up too bad I would think possibly adjusting the bands would help out.

The 2nd gear band is out of adjustment. It is releasing before the 3rd gear clutchs are applying. Its also called shift flair up.

Most likely the trans has never been serviced. Do a fluid, filter and band adjustment and let us know how its doing.

Didn't need the classifieds just was answering under the unanswered post section. Trying to help people out. I guess I should have paid attention to the original posting dates.

Jeff, you aren't the only one. I've seen people answer posts that are 4 and 5 years old. You never know if they are being helpful or upping their post count. Sorry for being cynical. ;)
