growling noise

my getrag groans and rattles when i lug it a little in 1st thourgh 3rd shifts great and has new fluid overfilled by1.5 quarts any clues??
92 w250, NV4500, D80, maxed pump, AFC gone, extended fuel screw, more to come.

mines been growling when lugged in 4th for about 6 years now. keep the rpm's up and you should be fine.

my friends doesnt do it and i drive pretty hard and plan on doin some pullin next season place i do alot of drag racin so i want it to be right to decrease the chance of breaking

If it's making any noise, don't drive it! Especially if it's 4wd. The t-case bearing holds the rear shaft, and lets the bearing inside totally destroy itself before you know you have a problem. If you are lucky, a reshim may fix it. If it's making noise, it may be too late.
Over filling by 1 qt or so helps, and don't lug under 17-1800 rpm, never lug loaded, like with a trailer.

well i pulled the tranny out tonight to replace my wasted clutch and every thing seems tight no endplay cant shake any shafts up and down my pilot bushing was completly wasted maybe that could cause it to make noise???

Pete, you have one of the tightest, smoothest Getrags I have driven in a while. Guess I should step up and pay a little more than $800 for a truck, huh?

If it has done it all along, many years and miles, I wouldnt worry too much- just keep the revs up when hitting it hard. If it is something new, I'd worry. Mine complains at anything below 1500 in 4th and 5th, so I dont romp on it at those RPMs.

If you havent reinstalled it, take the mainshaft out and check your pocket bearing. It will tell you a lot about the condition of your transmission, as it is normally the first to show any wear or give signs of trouble.

I swear that the people on the line truly cared on the day my truck was built. The KDP never moved, the bolts were tight, the trans is great, the diff is good, it runs smooth and perfect! :D

truck back together dual disk grabs hard lol had flywheel bored and installed roller pilot bearing no more funny noises. ptoombs my truck is the same way i drive it like a drag car and mud it like a swamp buggy never had any problems besides junk centerforce clutch goin bad. rearends still tight tranny trouble free now rolls over 1/2 turn and fires no matter how cold
