Flex plate options

Postby 1arock » Thu Oct 04, 2012 9:09 am

I'm 99% sure my flex plate is broken in the Dodge pile. What years flex plates actually fit a first gen? There seems to be a lot of conflicting "facts" about what works and dosen't, even between the dealers for this stuff. Where is the best place to buy a new plate, and are the aftermarket ones better?
Thanks for your replies in advance, Rocky

I've been told that all stock Cummins Dodge pick-up plates will fit and I know 1st and 2nd gen ones are identical. 6.7L plates are supposed to be solid (no triangluar cut outs) and I think there was a pic floating around of one. I think with aftermarket plates, you can spend as much as you want. I'd let a drag racer shed some more light on the subject though

I just bought the oem one from cummins the other day... It cost $170. It's the same one they used from 89 all the way until they got the 6.7l engine. Hopefully gonna tackle project this weekend...

I would have tried one of the "sfi" ones from eBay because they look similar but are thicker metal. And cheap. But I read on here that they don't accurately center on the crank so it will bolt up and work but fail in short order. Not worth the risk to me. The o.e. one made it 270k already so that's what I bought again.
