47rh?

Postby 88Centurion » Thu Nov 08, 2012 7:26 pm

I think i may have found a transmission but its a 4x4 trans going in a 2wd truck. I think i remeber seeing a plate and yoke somewhere that would bolt where the t-case is to convert it to 2wd without swaping shafts. Has any one else seen this or am i just crazy? Cant seem to find it now.

It's steep as can be. 2wd transmissions are less common, but cheaper when they come up. FWIW, you can use a 2wd 518 tail housing and as long as you use diesel internals, you essentially have a 47RH minus something like 1 O/D clutch disc

just swap the o/d unit off your 2wd 518 onto the 47rh. did the exact opposite on a 47rh to convert it to 4wd for the crew cab.

Finally found me a transmission. Pick up a 2 wd 47 rh for $350. Says it was working just noy exactly right. So thought I'd adjust the bands and throw in a shift kit and see how long it will last. The tic has hd wrote on it and the trans was apparently rebuilt in 07. Any suggestions on a shift kit and what other cheap mods I might do while in there?

Bump up the line pressure if the shift kit doesn't accomplish that already. You can fool with the shift points on the valvebody too. Both are free

Will do I swaped the speedo sensor from the trans that came out of the truck and gonna use the tv or what ever its called cable from the 727 that came with the engine. An hoping that the cooler lines from the727 will be long enough but not sure on that one just yet.

The speedometer cable and TV cable will both work. BUT, in my experiences, you need a 31 tooth long shaft gear if your speedometer is mechanical, as was the case in my '89. The one that came with my 47RH was 31 tooth short shaft and the one from the 727 was something like 28 tooth long shaft.

I couldn't get the factory steel transmission cooler lines to fit, but you may have more patience than me

The truck had a 518 in it so the speedometer is electric. I swapped the the for the trans that was in the truck into the one that's going back in. One was a 31 and the other was a 33 I believe but the one that was in the rh was broken due to removal issues. Any ideas on how to wire it up I think it went through the PCM but not sure. And I'll try the transgo and see how it works or at least how long the trans will last.
