AMSOIL!!!

Postby rbrettctd » Sun Oct 21, 2007 7:04 pm

Swapped the Getrag over to Amsoil finally. I put 5 qts of Castrol (all the gas station had when doing the swap) to run for 200miles to flush the tranny....6500 miles later.... Only got the oe 3.5 qts in. had the right side jacked up with the tires a foot off the ground and still couldnt get more than 4 qts in and lost some when putting the plug in. But with 3.5 of the amsoil manual synchromesh tranny oil vs 5 qts of castrol- WOW!!! the 4th gear low speed groan/rattle I had is now gone, and gears seem to fall into place. Next is the differential oil and in 5k the engine. Im a fan now...

For $30 you can become a dealer and get it at wholesale yourself. Go to amsoil.com for more info.

hey, good to hear it made a noticeable difference! I have to go through my 1st gen, had my 2nd gen all changed over and sold it...

being a dealer works out well if you're going to do much, like if you have at least two or three vehicles and a few buddies. I became a dealer so I could sign my dad up as a commercial for his company trucks and also for the hot rod side jobs I do and a few friends; even at full price it ends up being cheaper in the long run(well, cheaper if you change at the intervals you're SUPPOSED to). I know plenty of people that have no idea you're ever supposed to change the diff/t-case/trans fluid!!
Interested to see how much of a difference it makes once I get my 1st gen all amsoiled out! really happy with the engine oil so far!

I put amsoil in my gettrag the other day. It barly makes noise in fourth any more and fith gear noise is a lot less but still there. Why does it make noise. It sounds like a bearing rattling noise.

How many miles are on it? Did you over fill by 1 qt? If it's rattling, usually it's a sign that it's not long for this world. The Getrag gurus say to stop running it if it starts to make noise, you can usually get away with bearings and seals. Sometimes a synchro. If you keep going..... :grrr:

Could someone try to describe the rattling soung being discussed? I've been running synthetic in my tranny and tcase since owning the truck, but have noticed sort of a vibration, kinda rises in frequency with the boost, while getting on it....I wouldn't say it is a loose rattle like the tcase lever rattle or anything....(i have one of those two)...
IMO Amsoil is a pretty good lube, i find the gear oil a bit expensive when you run it all through the driverain but it all becomes good on that cold snowy 4x4 morning on the way up the mountain...I personally am going to be trying something different maybe next time I flush the diff's....
