It all depends on what you're doing with it. The bare minimum is a converter and a shift kit.

If you were gonna hold the brakes firmly, build boost to 25 or so pounds, floor it and then let off the brakes, . . .. you'd come out ahead by going ahead and installing billet/alloy shafts throughout. Don't even think about cutting the corners of the honest/quality renewing of the trans. Review your choice of clutch-discs and steels. Increase line pressure.
If you plan on working the truck and need some azs-moving grunt, don't get carried away with tightening the converter.

- Accept the fact that you could still scatter the blame thing going nowhere with 25 pounds boost.

right by the rooster comb on the valve body there is stamped bracket with 2 adjustments, one is throttle valve, the other is the line pressure, takes small allen wrench, 3/16s but dont hold me to that, counter clockwise raises the line pressure, if your familiar with the valve bodies its the adjuster that pushes on the regulator valve.

Those adjustments txs suggested make a noticeable difference and you really can't do any harm within reason.

Here's a good thread about it. viewtopic.php?f=22&t=7759&p=58004#p58004

I assumed he meant full turns, apparently he meant the amount of turns your are able to do with the valvebody in the tranny (which is about 1/4 turn). So 2 full turns will jack the pressure up about 25 psi I've been recently told. I have not heard back if this is too much or not, but he did say you don't want to go above 150psi total. Since the stock setting is 90-96psi at 1600psi with the TV cable all the way back, I'm guessing I'm approaching that maximum with 2 full turns.

Confused on this part...1600psi??? 160 maybe?? 1600 rpm?? and back as in tv arm towards the rear applying more pressure or back as in the arm completely foward and no pressure?

you can crank the line pressure up so high you start blowing out seals, i saw a 727 that was pushing the reverse servo spring retainer right past the snap ring.
The line pressure is easy to check, on the passenger side it's the second 1/8" pipe plug back a little ways above the pan rail. You need a 200 pound gauge and some brake hose.
