What year for parts?

Postby cougar » Sat Dec 29, 2012 10:59 am

I'm trying to do an auto to manual conversion and I'm having a heck of a time finding the clutch peddle stuff. Anyone know what year they went from the mechanical linkage to the hydraulics? And do the gasers use the same peddle set up?

As far as I know, all 1st gens and newer use hydros. My '82 crew is mechanical (for now. ;) ). Wonder what the odds are of 2nd gen pedals working...................

Have you tried Mark yet? I'm sure being in AK makes for some slim pickin's.

Hyro clutches showed up in 87 or 88 iirc. As far as I know the gassers are the same pedals.

It's 1988-1992 on the pedals and major hydro stuff.
Be sure to get the bracket off the pedal support.
The largest difference is in the hydro line itself, some versions route to the passenger's side (4 speed) some to the driver's side (Getrag, A-535 and gasser 4500), but some constructive, careful routing can get the "wrong" line to still work.
If you're working with removing the 4 speed line, have PATIENCE when trying to get the master/slave line combo out as a unit, as they have 2 folded tabs that are bolted to the firewall.
Then there's the fun of snaking the lines and cylinders through wiring harnesses and lines. It's a PITA.

Something worth noting is the 1987 hydro set-ups.
Yes, the hydro clutch set-up started in 1987, but the '87 version used a totally different clutch pedal, as well as the hydro master and bracket. The 1987 clutch pedal is totally it's OWN piece, as is the clutch master bracket.

It also used a unique slave mount that bolted to the linkage-style bellhousing, in place of the Z-bar bracket.
If you're familiar with the old Mopar car/truck linkages, then you realize this is definitely a 1-off morphodite system and some of the parts are even different from V-8, to the awful slant six.
This version of set-up still uses the bellhousing and clutch fork that was used is all linkage type years preceeding.

Dodge was all-hydro by 1988.

Mark.
