Getrag cluth problems

Postby 93MikeB » Sun Dec 30, 2012 7:46 pm

Hey guys, recently the new pickup started making some growly metal type noises from the clutch. Climbed under her tonight with it running and moving the slave manually by hand definitely changes the noise. Could this be a throwout bearing? If she needs a clutch, any suggestions (single disc, dual disc, ceramic, organic, kevlar) The truck is pretty much stock right now aside from a 4" turbo back straight pipe. It's a daily driver that probably won't see much towing. My goal is 400hp hopefully by summer time and don't wanna put a stocker back in it only to have to do it again. Thanks! Oh, it's a 93 W250.

I run a Haisley machine dual disk in my truck. In the prostock truck we run a Valair. My clutch is good for up to 550hp.

Never heard of that brand. What kind of price tag? Did you install yourself? If so, how long did it take you? It's my daily driver and only transportation. I'm fairly handy with a wrench and hopefully it's something I could tackle on a Saturday.

I got a deal on it because buddy of Mine deals with Haisley for the drive train for the prostock truck. Let me look and see if I can find a price. A Valair is about $1000 if I rember correctly. I did mine in a few hours but I had a lift. If you need a hand ill be glad to get a day away from the kids and help you lol

Hailey dosnt do In house street clutches anymore. They stock southbend tho.

Cool thanks! Just a few minutes from the house actually. Don't know how much longer this one is going to hold up... must be something in the air, my dads 24v is midway though a clutch job as we speak. His busted the throwout into a handfull of pieces.

BTW
Nick is very knowledgable. Talk to him about your requirements. They have clutches to meet your HP needs.

That info I gave you is Valaire headquarters in Texas.
Their web site is:
www.valairinc.com
Good info on their site.

I'm thinking Valair might be the way I'm leaning. Southbend just seems so expensive and I've heard of people not being completely satisfied with their product.

I faced the same delima, rescharching everything I decided to go with the Valair. I heard the same issues you have about the Southbend. A lot of 1st. Gen owners swear by Southbend. I got exceptional service from Valair, and I'm very happy with the clutch. Talk to Nick at Valair , tell him about your truck and make a decision. I sure like my Valair.
