cummins crewcab 4x4 conversion cont

Postby CREWCABGOD » Sun Jan 20, 2013 4:57 pm

hi guys i am new to the site as a member. i am curenetly building a gen1 cummins crewcab. well the bodyswap and everything has been done for about a year and its been my daily driver. bad news-blew the 727 recently!! good news- i got a getrag setup to swap:))). Now for the tricky stuff. my truck originally was a single cab 8 foot box truck that had a great frame and drivetrain but the body was rotten(typical southern ontario trucks). i went to albany newyork and bought a full 1985 360 gasser crewcab truck rustfree. i did the body swap. tonnes of work! now ive heard that dodge didnt have hydraulic clutches in the manual transmissions back then so im wondering what i gotta do to get the cummins pedals and master cylinder to fit properly? has anyone done this before? or does anyone have pictures or could take pictures of the setup? i will post some pics of the truck to give you guys an idea on what im working with. thanks ALOT

Why didn't you just use the crewcab frame?

thats a really good question lol. i had contemplated that for a long time and i basicly just decided to go this way because its ruffly the same work. but mainly because i wanted something unique. the hardest part of it all was shortening the box. if u look close enough u will see that the rear wheelwell is a little off. thats because my frame was an 8 foot box frame and i took a six foot box and cut it not knowing at the time that the 8 footer is about two inches longer behind the wheels then the six foot box. so i shoulda took a 8 foot box and cut it. but ohhwell i guess thats just something else for me to fix in the future. but for now i dont mind it :))

The hell with the truck! Tell us about the 'cuda in the barn!
When I swapped cabs on my truck I cut out part of the 92 firewall and welded it into the 86 cab for the clutch and bulkhead plug to be in the right spot.

Welcome!

I have contemplated doing the same as what you did. How did you do the rear floor pan around the fuel tank?
