I developed a distaste for aluminum driveshafts after I watched about half a dozen "street stock" Duramaxes twist them off in one night of pulling.

Are you refering to the one piece nature of the aluminum shafts?

I don't see why you couldn't use one, as all I have ever seen are the ones that have t-case rear slip outputs instead of fixed yokes. Our trucks run fixed rear outputs, so unless you want to convert to that somehow, running the stock steel driveshaft is going to be your best bet ;)

I have had carrier bearing issues before and like to do away with the problem before it becomes one. But, the aluminum one piece on my 05 was a 5 inch tube and it looks like my exhaust and fuel tank wouldn't like that much metal swinging around between.

Not much you can do about that, it's incredibly hard to balance a really long driveshaft if you want to do away with the carrier bearing...some shops might not even make one that long for liablity reasons, as most shops have the "stock is best" mentality
