...real trucks don't have spark plugs 8) I think that pretty much sums up this side topic

But on the other hand, is mostly everyone in the same boat that a reliable HP to have with these trucks is at least 400HP and still be able to use it as a truck?

While I realize that 90% of people are afflicted with the "more is better" syndrome, with regard to horsepower, personally I prefer a truck that doesn't smoke (ergo attract attention) and at some point I intend to chase that down and still have 300HP.
I figure you can attain both with conservative tuning and a set of compounds.

Until then, it's going to remain as stock as possible for me.

I love my nearly stock truck, for use as a truck.

Now I don't need it as a truck.

Whatever floats yer boat.
Just because I don't want to blow the tires loose and roll coal, doesn't mean I should be ridiculed for it.
I like stuff stock-ish and I certainly don't enjoy rolling smoke.

It's possible to do a clean tune, just takes more time to tweak all the goodies. I'm around 250+ with my 95 and there isn't much smoke that comes from it. If I wanted to roll coal...it isn't going to happen. Granted I've only spent money on gauges and done free mods.

No need to get all butthurt I wasn't really directing it towards you....I was just stating what i've seen else where. I don't know how many posts I've seen that said their engine is stock and are making tons of hp, and not much is stock, or I want a stock engine but I want to make XXX hp. I really don't care if you want to leave your truck stock or not its what ever you want to do.

You must have been reading my comments on here from a month ago.
I'm actually in the planning stages of a 4bt into a shortbed standard cab Dakota with a 5 speed.
I have already bought the adapter to put the AX15 behind the Ford set-up from a Stepvan.
No, it wouldn't have a hoodstack, nor wheelie bars.

I've seen a D-50 or 2 with 383s shoehorned in, they actually fit V-8s better than the Dakota does.

My one regret is that I can't weasel a 1983 Turbodiesel D-50 from a farmer I know in SD.
He has delusions of using the engine on an implement of some sort. :(

I'm tring to weasel a D-50 from my cousin that my uncle set up for a big block but never finished. I had dreams of putting a 4bt in my 4x4 dakota but I ended up trading it for a 4x4 half tons...I have lots of dreams and Ideas but not enough time or money.
