Getrag durabilty?

Postby ford69557ci » Mon Oct 29, 2007 12:25 am

How much power can a getrag handle??? Gear size wise it looks heavier than a nv4500. Is it just the small bearings that are weak?

Mine's holding up OK. I know KTA blew his out, but that was drag racing.

Bill Gilbert- 450 RWHP.

GLHS- I know has topped 400, but I'm not sure if it's a G360 or NV4500.

It's not what you got, but how you use it. Or in this case, how it is applied. Drag racing will break all but the best and most expensive stuff. Towing and smoking ricers can be done for many miles with no detriment to any of the drivetrain.

I took some teeth off 3rd drag racing at 627rwhp and 1300tq. I never had a problem with it when it was around 500rhwp and 1100tq. It is back together and still in the truck holds fine in normal driving.

I bet it was the nice smooth shift you made into 3rd that did it! :mad:

I only have about 300hp but I sled pull with a double disc and have not demo'ed it yet. I think 1st and 2nd are tough, I pull in hi range in both.

Same answer as Brian;
I've never had a problem except shifting very fast into 3rd and that's when the teeth broke.
Still have the Getrag at 455+ hp uncorrected.
