1st and foremost- i need a TC, i was thinking hughes,
2nd- do i need a shift kit, or is it just for fun
3rd- will i need a tranny cooler
4th- Will this support 350hp
5th- anything else going to be required
6th- stuff to watch out for?

If your going to upgrade the trans I would recommend a 47RH trans and get away from a fluid coupling trans all together.

1st---Hughes makes good converters.

2nd---A shift kit will speed up shifts. This in turn stops heat buildup. Its a
good idea.

3rd---What are you doing with the truck. Playing or towing? If just
playing the stock coolers will do. If towing heavy add another one.

4th---I would go threw the whole trans. You have to pull it to do a
converter anyway. 350HP on a older high milage trans is asking
for problems somewhere down the road.

5th---see my first statement.

6th---If your not doing the work yourself. Make sure the person knows
Dodge transmissions good. Diesel experence would be better to.

hp doesnt hurt a auto trans but torque sure does

how much torque do you plan on having at 350 hp?

that is the number you would want to relay to your tranny guy - that, and application...

from what i hear these first gen trucks make more torque at a given hp level than most of the other combos

don

ps - a shift kit isnt an option at the torque level you are referring to - it is mandatory

I was shooting to have around the 800 lbs of torque range. and why is the shift kit mandontory? i know it stifens up the shifts, but does it do more? of coures the reason i dont want the shift kit is, well this explains my knowledge of a auto tranny :pottytrain: , and what are some of the downsides of a shift kit, I.E.-wearing out componets wise, i mean hitting stuff with a sledgehammer is differnt than hitting them with a rubber mallet.

it easier on the trans if the line pressure is higher than stock

i wasnt saying to install a manual valve body and jack the pressure to 800 psi (although if it were mine that is what i would do...:))
