Ya if the coil dies in the solenoid it'll kill it dead and you'll have to gut it.

Yeah, in a way they do "Have Spark".
How'd we go from talking about a "sparkless" overdrive solenoid, to a "sparkless" FSS? :?

I swear you guys have ADD, or something. :P
Nevermind the "ADD" comment, I see that Arnie originally asked about BOTH in the OP. :bh:

Soooo lets say little ole me has a crank but no start situation. Do I just take unplug the FSS from the injection pump so I can start it again?

No sir, you'll have to unscrew the fss and pull the plunger out of the center and screw the body back in

My new '92 did that when it had about 10K, the FSS went bad and took a fusible link with it, dead in the water. Ooops, I already said that.

lets see if you guys can figure this out then.... My '93 w250 has gone thru at least three FSS's since ive had it. and only three cause on the second i put a pull shut off on it and drove it that way for a while and then put another FSS on and now its out too. I see you guys have said yours are dead when the FSS goes out? well mine just doesnt shut off when it goes out. figure that out? i still drive it daily but when i shut the key off the engine still runs and i have to shut it off manually. its never shut down or not started for me. i replace it and it goes back to shutting off with the key. but only for a while. i had noticed when mine go, the plunger had rubber on the tip and there is always little chunk missing out it?? any ideas? what i could do to make them last alittle longer? or have you even heard of this?

Chipping of the solenoid plunger causes them to not shut off.
What causes the chipping is related to having the pump turned up too much and it blows the plunger tip apart.

Pump is turned up to far with stock injectors. Those little rubber pieces are stuck in your delivery valves more then likely. Turn the power screw out a turn or two and you will stop killing fss I bet.

i can understand that! Now, im thinking about throwing some 5x14 injectors and some other work at it in the future, maybe near future. Would this maybe fix the problem as well or do i still need to turn it down and track down the pieces?

The plunger will last a little longer if you let off the pedal slower. The tip chips from the backwash when you let off quick. You have all that fuel flowing thru the injectors, then it stops when you let off, and the flow has to go someplace. Larger injectors will help. but it will still do it some.
I welded a very small nut on my plunger and it works quite well. Occasionally after I run it hard it will slowly die, but 97% of the time it shuts right off.
